A stealth ship is a ship which employs stealth technology construction techniques in an effort to ensure that it is harder to detect by one or more of radar, visual, sonar, and infrared methods. Though radar cross-section (RCS) reduction is a fairly new concept many other forms of masking a ship have existed for centuries or even millennia.

The cost of modern warships such as the Type 26, Type 45 and Arleigh Burke-class has considerably increased per unit over the decades. This has resulted in a reduction in the number of units within the fleets. The only counter to the effect of this reduction, as well as the limitation encapsulated by the idea that one ship can only be in one place at a time, is to extend the area of control for each ship to a much larger sphere of influence than currently present whilst simultaneously being…
