The final step for all of my work before I get to switch gears and start decorating the sides of each piece. Contrasting colors of liquid slip is brushed in multiple layers over custom die cut stencils. The stencil is removed while the slip is still damp; revealing the raised textured pattern. And yes, the stencils can be rinsed and reused countless times over! Since the pattern is colored slip (liquid clay) it will not stick to the kiln shelf during the firing process.

In the mugs I have collected from other ceramic artists over the years, it is always such a joyful experience to see a hidden surprise while washing them and turning them upside down to dry. 🥰
