This antique shrine/shadowbox was commissioned to provide comfort and remembrance for the 2000+ souls lost in the Johnstown, PA flood of 1889. There is an original note regarding this on the back of the rough- hewn frame, including the original poem/prayer written for the survivors. The shadow box itself is gorgeous! This gorgeous freestanding shrine has been handmade from toasted stoneware with designs in white porcelain stencilled onto it. Every now and then I feel the urge to put feet on things, and this shrine is the result. I used several stencils to get the very tidy patterns that I have put onto this shrine using white porcelain.
