Casanova pictures
[edit]Hello. I see you uploaded stuff in Category:Giacomo Casanova -- you may want to have a look at my request about some PD-ART I found. Regards. 62.147.36.32 02:52, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
Overcategorization of signatures of people of the French Revolution
[edit]Just a tip, if the person already has their own category and it is a subcategory of Category:People of the French Revolution, you don't need to categorize the signature as Category:French Revolution because as it is is a grandparent category, including the People of... category and the category for the specific individual, the image gets over-categorized. The rule is to use most specific categories possible. I decategorized a couple of your uploads because of this. --BrokenSphere 23:28, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
Mompou picture
[edit]Clarabena Hello. Sorry but the picture you upload here : http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:FedericoMompou.jpg is not a picture of Federico Mompou ! The book source from 1839, Federico Mompou wasn't born yet. I'm sure, because I used to know Federico Mompou ! Thank you. Clarabena

Paris Omnibus Lines 1828.jpg
[edit]Bonjour. Merci d'avance. Cordialement, Freewol (talk) 13:12, 9 July 2010 (UTC)

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 11:12, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

File source is not properly indicated: File:E-Montagu.jpg
[edit]This media may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:E-Montagu.jpg, is missing information about where it comes from or who created it, which is needed to verify its copyright status. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted.
If you created the content yourself, enter If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |

Hi, User W. C. Minor, are you sure this is a Spanish Deck of Cards (1495-1518)? The text on the Queen of Clubs is French, it says: "Cœur de femme trompe le monde", which means: the heart of a woman deceives the world. Lotje (talk) 06:12, 5 October 2013 (UTC)
Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called W. C. Minor. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name W. C. Minor~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell

author field
[edit]Hello I reverted some of you edits. You can not do such thing. The field "author" in the template "Information" is intended to the name (or username) of the photographer, it is in almost cases required by the licenses terms. You have the possibility to use Art Photo for the relevant cases.

Hello! This image is not about the Plot of rue Saint-Nicaise (december 1800) against Napoleon Bonaparte, at that time only First Consul (not yet emperor). It's the plot agaist its nephew Napoleon III, at evening 14 January 1858. You can see details in the Orsini affair article in wikipedia. Your picture image is between the pages 220 and 221 of the source cited, which are about Napoleon III. If you want to use the same source, you should go to volume 4, at page 329 (http://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/bpt6k200689d/f382.image). Thanks --Jipécé34 (talk) 21:11, 2 March 2018 (UTC)
