Consider updating this image

[edit]

Please consider updating File:Usage_share_of_web_browsers_(Source_StatCounter).svg using stats from http://gs.statcounter.com/#browser-ww-monthly-200807-201211. I would do this myself, but I'm not sure how to install R-code and the .jpg I can produce isn't accepted by Commons. Jesse V. (talk) 23:45, 15 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads-up. I did do this this once before, but I had no recollection this time as to how I had done it! Therefore I also tried to update the page to make updating more user-friendly. I only know how I did it on my computer, which is running Ubuntu 12.04, I don't know how this would translate onto a Windows or a Mac machine, and could only Google and guess, like anyone else. --Nigelj (talk) 00:22, 23 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Could you prepare new chart of global warming?

[edit]

Hi, please, could you make a new chart of global mean land-ocean temperature Global_Temperature_Anomaly_1880-2012.svg based on new informations from NASA Thank you very much! --81.19.4.215 08:37, 23 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

✓ Done. Thanks for the reminder. I was checking that data for the update, but then it happened when I wasn't looking! --Nigelj (talk) 21:00, 23 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks you very much! Good work! --Pavouk (talk) 15:13, 24 January 2014 (UTC) (8.19.4.215 = Pavouk)[reply]

Update of Brent oil price

[edit]

Dear Nigelj,

may you provide you calculation sheet for updating File:Brent Spot monthly.svg?--Kopiersperre (talk) 20:39, 16 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I would be happy to, but it is a .ods spreadsheet document, with formulas for calculation and then to format the figures into SVG path attribute text. I don't know how to provide that here. Here is tabulation of the first few rows. I have added the 1,2,3... and A,B,C... for the rows and columns that the spreadsheet provides.

  • The formula in the first cell of column G is ="M " & E2 & " " & TEXT(D2, "0.000"), and the pattern follows that in F.

I hope this is helpful. Please feel free to ask for more details.

Thank you very much. You could upload the spreadsheet at a filehoster or send it by wikimail, so I would do this.--Kopiersperre (talk) 19:40, 2 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I've updated the oil price to November 2014.--Kopiersperre (talk) 01:07, 19 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Could you prepare new chart of global warming?

[edit]

Hi, please, could you make a new svg chart of File:Global_Temperature_Anomaly.svg based on new informations (January 2015) from NASA [1] Thank you very much! --Pavouk (talk) 00:04, 20 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

May you also provide your calculation here? I have calculated d="M 884 60 h8"/> for 2014, but I'm not able to calc the running mean.--Kopiersperre (talk) 11:17, 20 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
✓ Done. The formulas for the calculations are given both as comments in the source code, and in the comment for the upload 17 October 2013. They are: x-axis: pixels = 6*year − 11200; y-axis: pixels = −500*temp + 400.
However, I have a whole spreadsheet that I use to create svg text out of csv data copied from the source website. I wish there was some easy way to upload the spreadsheet here, but as there isn't, I'll try to give the spreadsheet cell formulas here, in a similar way to what I did above. --Nigelj (talk) 21:58, 23 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Are you knowledgeable about en:John Sawyer (meteorologist)? It seems valuable to expand his article.

Discussion about File:Bird mortality.svg

Dear Nigelj,

someone has critisized the data behind your plot on my discussion page and in enwp. May you take a look on it?--Kopiersperre (talk) 06:56, 27 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

User:Yann, I see that you also just deleted File:Amateur radio VHF handheld transceiver on yacht.jpg, which is strange as - if I recall correctly, and obviously I can't see it now - that was a picture I took myself of my own transceiver on my own boat and uploaded personally to Wikimedia. It seems no one had used it anywhere important so it's no great loss, just strange. Makes me wonder if it's worth the bother of contributing, though? Regarding the African Consensus logo, I would need to look at the page - now gone - to remind myself, but I do remember going to some lengths via contacts all over the world on Facebook to get an email from the person who actually created the logo, explicitly trying to follow the labyrinthine guidelines on the topic, to get proper release of the logo to Commons. The people behind that logo in Africa were very keen and proud to have their organisation given its proper recognition on Wikipedia, and to see their logo appear. They were also very interested in the whole idea of Creative Commons licencing, and thought it was a great thing. I must have missed some obscure sub-clause in the licencing procedure. But well done!! You found it and deleted the whole thing, history and all. Jeeze. What is the point. --Nigelj (talk) 22:14, 23 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
I restored this file. In such cases, it would be better if you could upload the orginal in Commons, not a thumbnail version, or change the license on your website.
This logo is not simple, so a permission from the organisation is needed. Regards, Yann (talk) 12:42, 24 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I got permission from the copyright holder within the organisation. It was an email. Do you want me to try to find it, and to re-read what I'm supposed to do with it? I can't see the page now to remind myself of dates or anything. --Nigelj (talk) 13:20, 24 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It was Ticket#2014111910026542, Nov 2014. If you can tell me what went wrong under that ticket, I can try to contact the relevant people again to have it put right. I received one email from [email protected] giving me the ticket number, and nothing else ever, to confirm or request anything more. This really is a shoddy business. --Nigelj (talk) 13:29, 24 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

New chart of global warming?

[edit]

Hi, please, could you make a new svg chart of Global_Temperature_Anomaly.svg based on new informations (January 2017) - add year 2016 - from NASA sources? Thank you very much! --Pavouk (talk) 00:57, 19 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the reminder. I have updated the graph today. Unfortunately, in order to comply with the new NASA data, I have had to alter one of the legends. Therefore, a translation update now needed for the legend 'Lowess Smoothing (5-year)' in one of the switch statements. I have messaged User talk:Delphi234 and User talk:Kopiersperre who did the translation work on the graph in 2015 and I hope they will be able to help, as it is displaying incorrectly in several languages at the moment. --Nigelj (talk) 12:37, 27 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It should be 1.0 on the y axis instead of 0.9. Apologies for probably posting this comment not where it belongs - I don't have experience here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kobak~enwiki (talk • contribs) 14:28, 27 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Also, where exactly did you take the loess data from? The top plot on https://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/graphs_v3/ has 5-year running means, i.e. with no values for the last two years. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kobak~enwiki (talk • contribs) 14:30, 27 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, sorry about putting 0.9 instead of 1.0 at the top of the axis. That was my fault and I've fixed it. The data for the graph comes from http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/graphs/ which is the link in the description page for the image. NASA-GIS have updated the format on that page, and that's what I used. I think the lowess smoothing works better, and apparently NASA-GIS do too. I think this is now an update of 'Fig. 9a in Hansen et al. (2010)' more than of 'Fig. 1A in Hansen et al. (2006)', which it used to be. --Nigelj (talk) 16:46, 27 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
