Hello, Multivariable!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

File:Platform in Dingxi Station of the Taipei metro.JPG

[edit]

Thanks for your goodwill to adjust this file, but it's really TOO BRIGHT. As the original uploader of this photo, I think it would be better to replace your work (sorry= =") by the previous version so that it'll conform to the actual illumination in the station. Thank again.--howard61313 (talk) 11:23, December 5 2010 (UTC)

Hello again. Now that you mention it, you may give it a try to adjust the brightness of your screen first. If it doesn't, then go ahead as you like :)--howard61313 (talk) 12:49, December 13 2010 (UTC)

THSR

[edit]

Hello here too :-) I was looking for a good image of a THSR train on a long viaduct here on Commons, but didn't find any. But I saw some station photos you made. Is there any chance that you could shoot a viaduct photo yourself? --Rontombontom (talk) 12:32, 11 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I can look through my photos again, but everything I took was from the stations themselves. The photos were taken on trips to Taiwan, but I haven't had the chance to go back recently. :( I'll try to get one next time, if I get the chance to travel. Would the type of photo you are looking for be similar to this shot? [1] Additionally, images can be transferred over from Flickr using the Flickr upload bot, if it's licensed that way. One candidate I found over there is: [2] :) -Multivariable (talk) 21:59, 12 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The photo on Flickr you link to, though it doesn't show much viaduct, is very nice, but I think it was posted on Flickr and designated CC BY-NC-ND 2.0 in violation of THSRC's copyright (which is ironically stated in the caption).
I saw that photo on Wikimedia in your first link earlier (while looking for images last September or so) but couldn't find it last week, I thought it was removed for copyright reasons... Yes, I was thinking of something like that in composition, only with better weather, cropping and tilt. I understand the photo was shot from the terrace of a place called "THSR Café" or something (with lots of photos on the web from the same spot), so it should be well accessible. I imagine other good spots with a free view on viaducts would be next to tunnel entrances, like just outside Taipei, or near THSR Hsinchu Station; or (if there are any) the accessible tops of parking houses on the edge of new developments near other stations.
I was unsure whether you reside in or just regularly travel to Taiwan, but as it's the latter, I realise travelling beyond the stations just for a photo would be difficult... so I'll look around Flickr and check out that Flickr upload bot. --Rontombontom (talk) 12:17, 14 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Category discussion warning

Nangang Station has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
