Note about my deletions

[edit]

If you think I made a wrong decision about deletion of a file, please think about your motivation and ask for undeletion on COM:UNDELETE. Another admin will decide on the matter. It is appreciated if you ping me, so I can get new insights. Thanks Ellywa (talk) 15:59, 17 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You come out of the blue, unilaterally revert a DR discussed and closed almost 1 year before, delete many dozens of valuable files from the MTur Destinos Flickr feed writing there that "there is no evidence whatsoever that the flickr uploader had permission to publish these files of these different photographers", when the evidence exists, yes, and was presented during the DR discussion? Why have you done that?! It seems you didn't even care reading the discussion which preceded the decision to keep the files. Darwin Ahoy! 00:21, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@DarwIn,
A simple question in the first place. Why are you asking such suggestive questions in an unpleasant way? Of course I care. I will answer in this case, but please be more kind in future,. I - and others as well - are sensitive to the tone of text.
My second question: Can you imagine somebody - in this case a colleague admin - is making a mistake? There were 5 deletion requests listed on a single page, Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Sintegrity, so I think I indeed made a mistake. The rationale on my conclusion indicates it was a mistake.
However, looking into the files of the 2nd deletion request, I note some conflicting stuff in the licensing. Perhaps the MTur - Ministry of Tourism, obtained permission of all photographers to release the photos in PD. However, when they are stating a "Mandatory credit" (In Portuguese "Crédito obrigatório") with the name of the photographer I wonder whether this is compatible with the PD definition used on Commons. This is a receipe for mistakes of re-users of the files. And I experienced as a reuser this can lead to severe problems, e.g. fines of a high amount. Perhaps the uploader Sintegrity has some thoughts about this. Some examples of this credit line on the Flickr photos:
My proposal would be to discuss this in an undeletion request. If you agree, I will start the procedure. Kind regards, Ellywa (talk) 09:01, 9 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Ellywa I was shocked that such an huge amount of files, some/many of them certainly in use, went down the hole in such an apparently reckless way, so it's natural that I was a bit confrontative, specially when you reverted that closed DR out of the blue. If you've done a mistake, I don't think the proper path is to force the mistake and force others to pass for more bureaucracy to revert at least part of the damage you have unwillingly done. I think the appropriate action would be to restore them all, and then reopen the DR if you feel it's appropriate. As for the credit, it's indeed mandatory under Brazilian law, even in the case of Public Domain. It's the general Brazilian (and Portuguese) copyright law, attribution is mandatory and never expires. This applies to all files under the law of these countries, not just to MTur feed, and it's what we call a reuse issue, not a Commons issue, like trademarks, moral rights and whatelse. If you don't plan to do anything about this huge mess you have done, at least can you confirm you will not get in the way if others start fixing it, restoring the hundreds of files you deleted by mistake there? Darwin Ahoy! 12:23, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am trying to find out how to restore, using some tool, but did not manage yet. Please feel free if you are aware of an efficient method. Ellywa (talk) 12:54, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Ellywa there is not, AFAIK, that's why I was so flabbergasted by the sheer amount of files deleted, as such actions are very painful and tiresome to revert. I certainly understand you making a mistake, especially in such a combo of DRs.. I apologize venting my frustration with that ungentle and blunt approach, but please, next time try to make a mistake more easy to fix.😅 Have a nice end of week and a better weekend. :) Darwin Ahoy! 23:46, 10 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@DarwIn, I received a suggestion from somebody to use Help:Gadget-Restore-a-lot, but I do not manage to get it running. I will start undeleting; I saw you started from the top, so I will start from the bottom of the list. Thanks for you good whishes, same to you. Regards, Ellywa (talk) 08:55, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Ellywa Hello! I didn't knew that gadget existed! I've been using it to restore the files, and it works! It misses some files, but nothing that a second round wouldn't fix. Thanks to it, I believe I'll be able to restore everything today, many thanks! Darwin Ahoy! 01:45, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@DarwIn, I am very releived to hear you got it working. Thanks for all your effort and enjoy your weekend. Ellywa (talk) 06:25, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

File:181020 스누퍼 롯데몰 김포공항점 팬싸인회 세빈 6.jpg

[edit]

Hi, can you please explain why you deleted File:181020 스누퍼 롯데몰 김포공항점 팬싸인회 세빈 6.jpg? It was not part of Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Виталий Болбас that you cited, it was not tagged for deletion, and it was not nominated as part of Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Minions#Files in Category:Minions 4. In fact, it kept as a result of the deletion request from five years ago. plicit 12:57, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I restored the file. This must be some bug, because I used an admin tool. Ellywa (talk) 21:27, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

You mention that you don't think the logos are above the threshold of originality, yet you deleted them. Was this a mistake? Or am I not understanding something about your closing comment? Thanks. IronGargoyle (talk) 18:49, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I made a mistake in the closing comment; corrected now. I do not think the logo's are below TOO. There is no law on TOO in my country, judges must decide. As an amateur visual artist I know creative effort can be high, even if a work looks simple, so to be fair, when in doubt - I often decide in favour of the copyright of the artist (or the owner of the logo in case they possess the copyright). Georgy Savitsky

[edit]

Hello. You wrote there (Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Georgy Savitsky) one year ago, that those files could be undeleted in 1949+75=2024. Please, restore these files. -- Andrew Krizhanovsky (talk) 06:23, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

✓ Done. Ellywa (talk) 06:33, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! -- Andrew Krizhanovsky (talk) 13:32, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@AKA MBG yw. If you have time to spare, you could search for other works of this artist because all his work is now in public domain. Regards, Ellywa (talk) 14:40, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, there are about 50-100 his paintings at Goskatalog. But Goskatalog is available only within Russia (some kind of Internet China Great Wall in Russia, I don't know). I want to upload someday several of these works. -- Andrew Krizhanovsky (talk) 19:19, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, are you able to clarify the source of the cartoon in this image? A reverse image search isn't giving me anything conclusive. Belbury (talk) 19:30, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
