[edit]Can you confirm in your upload of File:Mount Kosciuszko Summit walk, Kosciuszko National Park 02.jpg that depicted in the background is Mount Kosciuszko? This is important as we had one picture of Mount Kosciuszko that was proven to be incorrect by a bushwalker. — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 1.144.109.229 (talk) 02:19, 17 February 2022 (UTC)
- Someone has incorrectly used that photo (which makes no claim of being Mount Kosciuszko) on en:Mount Kosciuszko. The photo would have been taken close to the start of the Mount Kosciuszko Summit Walk, just past the snow gum grove near the Charlotte Pass car park, lookout and toilet. I would guess it was taken near this point on the track. Have a look at this photo in the context of those taken at the same time according to EXIF timestamaps. Panned from left to right the order is File:Mount_Kosciuszko_Summit_walk, Kosciuszko_National_Park_01.jpg (#01), File:Mount_Kosciuszko_Summit_walk, Kosciuszko_National_Park_03.jpg (#03) and File:Mount_Kosciuszko_Summit_walk, Kosciuszko_National_Park_02.jpg (#02). You can clearly see that #02 is most certainly not Mount Kosciuszko as it is not prominent, low in elevation with little snow cover and closer to Charlotte Pass than other peaks. I think that #01 shows Mount Clarke slightly to the left of centre. Then in #03, Mount Clarke appears to the left, and to its right and going to the centre of frame is Northcote Pass and Mount Lee, and then Carruthers Peak to the right of center. In #02 (the image currently misused on en:Mount Kosciuszko) I think this is a view up the foothills of Carruthers Peak, with the peak hidden somewhere above cloud level to the right of centre.
- Where is Mount Kosciuszko then? I think it is to the far left of #01 obscured behind clouds. You can also see what the view is in the opposite direction at File:Morning views from the summit of Mount Kosciuszko, Kosciuszko National Park 06.jpg with the horizontal cutting into the snow being the track down to Seamans Hut and behind that ridge if you zoom in all the way from centre of frame to the left, you'll see another horizontal cutting that is the Mount Kosciuszko Summit Walk leading down towards Charlotte Pass. Where the cutting meets the trees is where I think #01, #02 and #03 were taken. Also see File:Morning views from the summit of Mount Kosciuszko, Kosciuszko National Park 51.jpg where you'll again see the road cutting down to the snow gum grove past which #01, #02 and #03 were taken. I don't think there is line of sight between Charlotte Pass and Mount Kosciuszko because the track wraps around the ridge line and lowers through the snow gum grove to a point where the line of sight is obscured. Copyright violation
[edit]Virtually everything you uploaded from Amazon Prime seems to be a blatant copyright infringement. Am I missing anything? DGtal (talk) 12:55, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- Amazon uploaded the videos with a Creative Commons license to YouTube and I can't see why one would question their ability to release video content with a Creative Commons license (especially given that en:Amazon MGM Studios is a subsidiary). Commons:Deletion_requests/Files_in_Category:Hogwarts_Legacy and Commons:Deletion requests/File:Hogwarts Legacy – Official 4K Reveal Trailer.webm for some recent precedents, and link to other Warner Bros Music NZ precedents that are similar to this situation with Amazon Prime videos. It's actually quite common on YouTube for copyright owners (music labels, film and television studios, game studios, etc) to release a selection of short videos with a Creative Commons license. Dhx1 (talk) 13:08, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks, I learn't something new and unexpected. DGtal (talk) 13:46, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- It is still necessary though to be careful to double check licenses on each YouTube video one-by-one because generally these larger media companies will only release a subset of videos as CC-BY. I've even seen instances of a series of say 3 related videos where (1) and (3) are CC-BY, but (2) is not freely licensed. Reasons could be anything from some random background music only present in (2) not being able to be freely licensed, some other problematic copyrightable work only found in (2), or just an arbitrary marketing decision. Dear Wikimedian,
You are receiving this message because we noticed that you previously voted in the Picture of the Year contest. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2023) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
In this second and final round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2023.
Round 2 will end at UTC.
If you have already voted for Round 2, please ignore this message.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee
