CA removal

[edit]

Getting rid of CA in places that are almost black/grey/white is rather easy. Most programs have a tool to desaturate or remove color connected to a brush-tool of some kind. Set that to a size that just covers the CA you want to remove and move it over that place. The green or purple will turn grey instead and become as one with the rest of the picture. For places that are next to something with color, you select a tool with a brush for replacing color. You choose the color of the background close to the CA and move the replace-brush over the CA. For CA close to a part of heaven you can use the clone-tool and clone a bit of the sky right next to the CA over that CA to get the same shade of sky. To make it easier to work on the right area, enlarge the picture first to 100% to see where the CAs are, and then work on it at 200%. This will make it easier to hit the right spot. These are the first basic ways you can do this. There are other more sophisticated methods and even programs for this like the "fix CA" you mention, but for a beginner these are probably the best ways.

If you want to know more about how to use different features in Photoshop or Gimp, there are hundreds of help tutorial videos about all this on YouTube. You just do a search like "Ca correction Photoshop" or "Perspective correction Photoshop" and you will get result. It is much easier to follow such instructions since you get a film/screen shot of just how to do this along with a narrative explaining things. Trying to do the same thing with just text on a talk page will take ages. --cart-Talk 11:21, 27 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm glad that you now realize that QIC is for reviewing photos. Honestly, we are all trying to help you as best we can and get you settled in to the community, but you are taking every comment as an insult and not making things easy. Just try to get along with folks here instead of lashing out all the time, please. --cart-Talk 09:10, 3 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Honestly, I was on the English Wikipedia and if you search my username "Adamdaley" there, you'll find me. Yes, I had issues with people there that's why I've moved away quietly in the last 2 months without saying anything to anyone from there. I do have issues with people with people who criticise with anything I do, always have. When I said "reviewing photos" I was being a smartass. I admit I don't know everything. How my mind works is not that of a normal person, it's called "Asperger's" and in conjunction with my mental illness of "Obsessive Compulsive Disorder", you can only image the immense chaos of "criticism" that I get about images even though I have only submitted 4 since January 2017. When a group of people have done certain things for example "QIC" review system, they get in a routine. But I've come in with fresh eyes and have seen thing's that could be improved on because they get settled in their ways and every now and then need someone with fresh eyes to come in a new idea or something. Yes, I have completed a course in Photography, but that was only in Photography, none of the Photoshop or any image software editing, so anyone telling me to go fix this or correct whatever, I have no bloody clue. At best I can only do a few simple things, but none of the advanced things anyone is suggesting me do. Hope you are understanding my dilemma. Adamdaley 09:27, 3 March 2017 (UTC)
Yes, I understand your problem since I have worked with people with Aspberger's before. You are far, far from the only person on the project with that or some other kind of mental disorder. Mostly those persons get along quite well with the rest of the community since they want to be regarded as just another user and not be treated differently. It is a complex site and most of us did some stupid things when we were new here, so you are not alone in that. :) It is great that you have new ideas and ideas on how to improve things and if you present those in a calm manner at the right forum, I'm sure people will listen and provide you with feedback. --cart-Talk 09:37, 3 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Some explanation

[edit]

I just thought I'd add some explanations, since they may make things easier for you.

Many photographers had, just like you, no idea about how to use Photoshop when they first started out here. But they have learned, one step at the time, how to use it (or some other program like Lightroom that is used by professional photographers). It will take time though, probably about a year, so keep your ears open and be patient. Ask how things are done one item at a time.

You have asked about other users' photography certificates. That is not something we ask about, since it conflicts with the user's right to privacy and anonymity here. Some users go by their real name, or have made their real name known, but most (like me) are anonymous for one reason or another. There are plenty of highly skilled photographers and artists behind the user names here, just like there are even Nobel Prize winners at Wikipedia, but these people prefer to be "just another guy" in the community here and be treated like average users. This is a place where your actions speak instead of the diplomas on your wall. If you are skilled, it will shine through your anonymity.

If you have trouble with the critique you get at reviews here, think of it as a hard game of tennis. The opponents are trying to beat the shit out of each other on the court, but this practice will only make them better players and afterwards they will go off together as friends and have a cold beer and talk about the game. That is the same way things work here. We are hard on each others at reviews, this makes us better photographers and after a QIC/VIC/FPC review (whether we win or lose) we come away as friends and may continue to discuss things or the photo on some talk page.

Hope this will help you in some way. --cart-Talk 10:38, 3 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Fixing things at QIC

[edit]

Hello again! I see that you are getting by a bit better at QIC now, that's great. However, I think it would be best if you waited until a user got stuck or asked for help before jumping in and fixing things on other users nominations. A review starts between the nominator and the reviewer and it can take days before the nominator gets around to fix the photo. He or she may have a slightly other way they want to fix it than the help you provide. Technically, you are not doing anything wrong, it is just more polite to give the nominator a good chance first. There are some users who like to process everything directly from the RAW file to maintain as high quality as possible in the photo. Some users may appreciate your help, others may not. I'm just giving you a heads up about Commons "etiquette". --cart-Talk 14:44, 5 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for editing my image, but I could not agree more with W.carter, (in the case of Chapultepec sculpture verdedf p3.jpg your edition takes the original image that has a transparent zone that was removed on my second version) regards --Cvmontuy (talk) 14:07, 11 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Quote: "You are free: to share – to copy, distribute and transmit the work and to remix – to adapt the work". That's all I have to say about it. Adamdaley 06:32, 12 March 2017 (UTC)
But please read COM:Overwrite. (I know, a lot of rules in a chaotic system.) Some authors like me don't like overwriting. I'll fix all issues and even minor fixes by myself and generate the image from RAW. That's the way for best quality and preservation of meta data. If you remix an image please upload it with a new name and please respect the license rules. --XRay talk 14:28, 13 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
In this case of user:Cvmontuy there is no overwrite warning on this file that i edited. Therefore everything is OK. Adamdaley 15:56, 13 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Just a little caution for you. There are a lot of "unwritten rules" that goes together with the common good manners that exist on this site. I know that you take things that are written as absolute truth, that is how you handle things, so it must be confusing for you to learn that COM:Overwrite still applies even if it is not written on every page. Many users are not used to the system with templates and warning messages, simply because they speak other languages than English or are not so good at writing with the Commons software code. You must try to act as if that warning is on every photo, regardless if it is actually there or not. You could just ask the user first on their talk page if they would like some help with their photo, or you could help those who have already thanked you for your fixing since you know they liked it. --cart-Talk 16:49, 13 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
What about my help with my image? Huh?!? Been left there for days crying out for help! Jesus! Adamdaley 17:01, 13 March 2017 (UTC)
Which image? I haven't been on QIC for a while so I have not seen what is going on. Please tell me and I'll see if I can help you with it. --cart-Talk 17:22, 13 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
BTW: Please sign with -- ~~~~. It is easier for you. --XRay talk 19:29, 13 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

So, I found your photo at QIC and I have fixed it for you. Because of the tilt correction, I had to crop it a little bit or there would have been white parts showing in the corners. I also reduced the very glary highlights a bit. Hope you will not be mad at me for doing this. In response to why you have not been helped before with this photo, I can think of two things. First, people are usually just concerned with their own things. Second and most likely, they remember the discussions that you created regarding your other photos at QIC and how angry you became. Now people are afraid of you and would rather not get involved in your photos since they don't want to be dragged into such a mess again. If you keep your cool and try not hit the roof as soon as something goes against you, things will in time return to normal. --cart-Talk 20:27, 13 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You choose to ignore the above warning and again overwrote File:Church sandgate cemetery nsw australia.jpg contrary to our policy. Next time you will get blocked. --Túrelio (talk) 19:52, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Túrelio - Then why do all images have "Upload a new version of this file"? This feature should be disabled. Then it would be a shame if it was disabled and not an option for those who get their file assessed for Featured Images, Quality Images and Valued Images. --Adamdaley 22:22, 21 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

St Joseph Catholic Chapel

[edit]

Hi Adamdaley,

I've seen that you're asking for help on fixing this image. However, the image hasn't been reviewed yet, so that isn't a good starting point. Anyway, I'm willing to help, but only if you try to learn a bit.

So, let's see: if you look at the image, do you see that what in reality are straight lines aren't straight on the image? All verticals lean to the left, that's a tilt. I see that you've got Photoshop, so could you try to rotate the image clockwise until the verticals get vertical?

The next thing: the shadows are quite dark. Please try to look for a shadows slider in Photoshop and make the shadows a bit brighter. At the same time, pull down the highlights a bit. Later, you could add a bit of contrast, too. BTW, I normally don't use Photoshop, so I don't know where to find these tools, but they are there, I'm sure.

Could you try that?

Best regards,

--Basotxerri (talk) 18:42, 28 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Basotxerri: ..... I do not have much confidence in Photoshop, nor Lightroom. I have received little training or classes on Photoshop just enough to use the contrast and then save. --Adamdaley 23:22, 28 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Basotxerri: ..... The following has been done. Removed Chromatic Aberration and enabled Profile Corrections are done. Auto Contrast and Shadows/Highlights are done. No straightening has been done. As for straightening how much is enough? Do I need to get my horizontals right as well? I'm at the point where, if I get my verticals done, how will my horizontals look? --Adamdaley 23:49, 28 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, the shadows look better now. Don't believe too much in auto functions, adjusting manually is more accurate. I can still see the tilt, are you sure you've got it right? Verticals should be vertical, horizontals depend on the angle of view, I would fix them only in a few cases. For now, concentrate on the verticals. --Basotxerri (talk) 14:49, 30 March 2018 (UTC) Basotxerri (talk) 14:49, 30 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for formatting erong, I've got only a tablet here. Basotxerri (talk) 14:51, 30 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Basotxerri: ... I've tried my best to do the verticals and straighten it slightly. I won't have access to Photoshop from Saturday till Monday night Sydney, Australia time. --Adamdaley 23:57, 30 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki Loves Monuments 2019

[edit]

Hallo Adamdaley,

Hello

[edit]

Hey Adam, I'm pretty sure you are the same Adam that I've been speaking with on the en.WP. Since you are taking a break from that site for the next few months, It would probably be better if you contacted here, instead on of your en.WP tp. Also, I dunno if you got my email address from the one I sent you yesterday, but I think email would be a preferred means of communication for certain matters that are better off-wiki. That account is now blocked as well and your main accounts here and there do not have email contact enabled. If you didn't get my email address, then you should send me an email, either through here or through the en.WP, (I have it enabled in both places), that way I'll have your email address, and I'll immediately send a reply so that you have mine as well. Hang in there Adam, we'll talk soon. Wolf - wolf 07:16, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Iron Bark Creek, Wallsend

@BigDom: - I have resubmitted the image back leaving the graffiti and sign on building. I'd like to also have this image as Valued image as well, and I keep putting the wrong template in. Adamdaley (talk) 07:53, 6 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Archaeodontosaurus - I don't know how to do it. There needs to be a process that is easier than what it is currently. I give up on it. Adamdaley (talk) 05:40, 7 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Merriwa War Memorial

[edit]

I've been looking at images at this category: Category:Merriwa War Memorial - How ever it is not "War Memorial". It's Category:Merriwa Cenotaph - Should it be renamed? Adamdaley (talk) 01:30, 13 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Still here?

[edit]

@W.carter: - I am wondering if you are still on Wikimedia Commons. Adamdaley (talk) 07:16, 14 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Adam, yes I'm still here. I'm not as active as I used to be, but I'm here from time to time. --Cart (talk) 09:12, 14 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@W.carter: - I'll be going away for a few days between July 21 and 25 next weekend. I've mapped out what photos I'll be taking and there is alot of them. In coming weeks, I'll hope you'll see those images. Adamdaley (talk) 11:55, 14 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
