I have been a registered Wikipedia editor since 2007, and wish to expand my usefulness by providing photographs for historical articles.
Personal Reminders
[edit]If I want to upload a publicity photo made from between 1927 and 1963 I need to use this copyright tag: Type out " PD-US-not renewed", written between {{ }}. (It will go into the "another reason" copyright category, and I'll place it in the little rectangle.)
It will look like this:
This work is in the public domain because it was published in the United States between 1929 and 1963, and although there may or may not have been a copyright notice, the copyright was not renewed. For further explanation, see Commons:Hirtle chart and the copyright renewal logs.

Note – the above dates are as of 2022.
Wording to use is this:
This is a publicity still taken and publicly distributed to promote the subject or a work relating to the subject. • As stated by film production expert Eve Light Honathaner in The Complete Film Production Handbook (Focal Press, 2001, p. 211.): "Publicity photos (star headshots) have traditionally not been copyrighted. Since they are disseminated to the public, they are generally considered public domain, and therefore clearance by the studio that produced them is not necessary."
(In October 2023 I didn't have to use this.)
DuMont Photo Category
