Glovers Letters 2mo 23rd 1828" On front of document on right: “Albany Feby 23rd 1828 Dear Sir I must beg of you to have deposited to my credit in the Bank of Geneva two hundred dollars on our wheat acct. Mr. Clark I presume informed you on the day I left Waterloo that I was willing to close with the then price say six shillings – I am apprehensive I was a little too hasty as I have learnt there is but little wheat at the south & comparatively none coming in here – There is but little doing of importance in the Legislature – the whole [after?] day has been spent on the bill for the payt. to the minor children of Mr. Clinton his salary as Canal Commr. without coming to any final result. P.B. Porter proposed an amendment to the act as reported by the Committee which led"... On back of document, left of page: ..."to a warm & long discussion – the Speaker opposed the bill in two speeches of considerable length – in which he attempted to excite the political feeling of the house. I am however of opinion that he has done the cause he opposed more good than harm – you will have the goodness to inform me when the deposit is made that I may draw for it thru one of the banks here – I remain [illegible] faithfully yr. friend A. Glover. To Mr. R.P. Hunt" |
