- Any time you see an image in your browser, your computer has downloaded it.
- Assuming you are on a PC, you normally save a file to your computer's hard drive by right-clicking on it and then selecting "Save image as..." from the right-click menu. This is note specific to Commons, this should work on any site on the web that has not actively prevented it.
- In addition, on Commons, if you want out highest-resolution version of an image so that you can download that, you can either click on the image or click on the last entry in the line immediately under the image (e.g. "Size of this preview: 800 × 533 pixels. Other resolutions: 320 × 213 pixels | 640 × 427 pixels | 1,024 × 683 pixels | 1,280 × 853 pixels | 2,560 × 1,707 pixels | 6,000 × 4,000 pixels."). Either will load the full-resolution version, which you can then right-click and selecting "Save image as..." from the right-click menu.
- Apologies that I cannot reply in Turkish, but I'd be relying on machine translation which I'm sure you can as easily do yourself. - Jmabel ! talk 01:40, 2 December 2024 (UTC)

Copyright help regarding File:Art-100.jpg
Just found my original artwork of the Last Supper on Wikimedia. My website page here https://freechristimages.com/bible-stories/last-supper.html shows it is only available as a print. I'll add my copyright info right away. Here is the original upload to wikimedia: https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Art-100.jpg&oldid=297632321 and the current page stating it is in the public domain (it is not in the public domain) https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Art-100.jpg Any help taking it down would be greatly appreciated! Thank you, Laura Sotka

It is not clear whether they mean a "gallery page" (main-space page on Commons: Commons:Galleries) or a wikimedia gallery (w:Help:Gallery tag, ). The copyright dilemma in SVG military insignia
I'm interested in uploading self-made SVG versions of the Turkish military insignia to feature in Wikipedia (regiment-level bodies). The issue is that (on the contrary to most countries) the Turkish copyright law does not consider government emblems/works created by pubic servants in public domain. They also don't have licenses on government websites. Therefore, as a Commons newbie, I cannot find any way to legitimately upload such content. Some people I have seen just credited such works for themselves, and claimed they are the sole owners of the work, but I think such an action would not be allowed. Thanks! AscendencyXXIV (talk) 22:51, 1 December 2024 (UTC)
- @AscendencyXXIV: actually, the majority of countries in the worlld are more like Turkey on this. - Jmabel ! talk 01:54, 2 December 2024 (UTC)
- Term of protection for anonymous works in Turkey is 70 years, so presumably anything of this sort before 1954 is out of copyright there. However, I'm wondering if the URAA means that anything 1939-1954 is still copyrighted in the U.S. That's subtle, and might better be a question for Commons:Village pump/Copyright. - Jmabel ! talk 02:02, 2 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you, I'll forward the case there! AscendencyXXIV (talk) 02:20, 2 December 2024 (UTC)
File not uploading
I would like to upload this file from Flickr. It looks like it has the right CC license, it showed up on WikiShootMe, and (as far as I can tell) contains no copyrighted material. Can someone tell me why it isn't working? Thank you, Packer1028 (talk) 06:05, 2 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Packer1028: what means of uploading are you using. Did you get any error message? - Jmabel ! talk 06:30, 2 December 2024 (UTC)
- 403 Forbidden. Using the direct-from-Flickr method. Packer1028 (talk) 06:32, 2 December 2024 (UTC)

Please could the following German-language biography of Erich Wolfgang Korngold, written by my late husband, be added to the Bibliography in the entry for the composer: KORNGOLD. Musik ist Musik, by Guy Wagner, Matthers & Seitz, Berlin; ISBN 978 3 88221897 8, (Hardcover, 2008).

Is it possible to rename files?
Greetings, I was wondering if this could be done because it appears that an image of a submarine has been misidentified.
A couple months back, an IP user removed this file (File:HMS Resolution (S22) in 1977.jpg) from the respective sub's article and the article about her class stating that the sub in the photo is actually USS Lafayette (SSBN-616). After doing some investigating it appears this IP user is correct.
Has I'm not too familiar with Wikimedia commons, if it is possible to rename a file, what should I do next? Earle Bartibus Huxley (talk) 15:22, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Earle Bartibus Huxley Most of us can only request a file to be renamed, see Commons:File_renaming#How_to_rename_a_file. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 16:08, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
- Oh I see. Thank you very much for the link. Earle Bartibus Huxley (talk) 18:02, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
YouTube CC licenses?
Hello. This might be a mobile-only issue, but for some reason, YouTube CC licenses appear to no longer be visible at the bottom of the description of YouTube videos. Any idea where to check the license now? I don't think it's a case of YouTube suddenly removing the feature because you can still search for 'Creative Commons' videos. Starklinson (talk) 03:49, 2 December 2024 (UTC)
- I have the same issue on a mobile device, are you using the YouTube app (either Google Play or Apple App Store) or the YouTube website? -- Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 04:30, 2 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Starklinson: The licence is still visible for me using Firefox on Linux. For example, on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYCjGfQJ4kw I can click "...more" at the end of the description below the video and "Licence Creative Commons Attribution Licence (reuse allowed)" appears at the bottom of the expanded description. So it looke like this is indeed a mobile-only issue. --bjh21 (talk) 14:09, 2 December 2024 (UTC)

Award inclusion in a photograph - what release to provide?
Hello, I uploaded a photograph to Wikimedia, for which the photographer is currently preparing a copyright release for his photograph. Copyright help regarding File:514d9f2309c7-kamarannajmportraits01.jpg
Helloou removed the warning, but still haven't indicated a free license.
The photo belongs to Metrography Agency which was founded by Kamaran, I see there is a tag which will delete the photo, how can I fix that? thanks for anyone who can help
--Renas Osman (talk) 06:57, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Renas Osman: Certainly not this way! Your cited source for the photo (https://www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/) does not readily lead to the photo. The URL https://www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/world/45429/i-want-to-mourn-him-but-i-cant-the-missing-photojournalist-and-the-battle-to-find-him, which you have put in the licensing section looks to me like it is the actual source, but again there is no indication there of a free license.
- Why do you believe the image is free-licensed? Is there a statement at that prospectmagazine.co.uk site that I am missing? - Jmabel ! talk 07:31, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hello
- The picture belongs to Metrography so far, and it is a public domain, also there is no claim on it. Could you please consider it again Renas Osman (talk) 12:32, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
- Can you show a source on the Metrography site, then, that indicates that this image is public domain? Meanwhile, I will turn the speedy-deletion request into a normal deletion request at Commons:Deletion requests/File:514d9f2309c7-kamarannajmportraits01.jpg so that this can be handled without a rush. @Renas Osman: please continue this discussion there instead of here. - Jmabel ! talk 19:41, 11 December 2024 (UTC)

Something is wrong with this image
When I open the following file: File:Die andere Bibliothek Band 470 Nummer 1991.jpg I see "Create" in the menu line above, it should be "Edit" instead. There is something missing, how to fix? --Wurgl (talk) 08:12, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
- There are 380 problems of this kind: quarry:query/88395 --Wurgl (talk) 09:01, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
- Like your query says, they are "images on Commons with missing description page". It looks like a sort of occasional bug. Many images currently listed there are part of rapid mass uploads by bots. Maybe a page was occasionally skipped. Fortunately, 380 images seems a relatively small number compared with the number of images uploaded. I don't know if it is necessary to create the description pages manually or if there is some automated procedure that takes care of fixing that. If it needs to be done manually, it is probably possible to figure out what goes in the page by a combination of looking at the information in the upload log and the information in the pages of related images uploaded by the uploader near the same time. Or simply notify the uploader and ask that they create the page. You could ask also at Commons:Village pump/Technical. See also recent discussions at Commons:Upload Wizard feedback#Missing (description) page after Upload and phabricator T374235. -- Asclepias (talk) 10:55, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
- In a query on the command line I added img_timestamp and it starts with 20200924161905 (and ends with 20241203101928) … so I doubt the existence of some automagic procedure. Feel free to move this section to some better page. --Wurgl (talk) 11:49, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
- I've fixed the ones uploaded by GeographBot, since I know where to get good descriptions for them. --bjh21 (talk) 17:51, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks! I added the actor and the date in the query. So maybe some more data can be added. --Wurgl (talk) 10:21, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
- See also the list Files without file pages by Achim55, who seems to have been tracking this since April 2023. That list is apparently updated a few times each month. The history of the page allows to see the evolution of the situation, with some files added and some files removed when users create the description pages. -- Asclepias (talk) 13:28, 4 December 2024 (UTC)

Uploading pictures to wikimedia commons
Can I upload the images I took at the Santa Fe College Teaching Zoo? Aweatherspoon (talk) 21:48, 3 December 2024 (UTC)
- @Aweatherspoon: Quite likely, but where you took them is not very informative in deciding if they are OK. Have you looked at Commons' scope? Also, if they are pictures of other people's copyrighted material (e.g. any but the most trivial signs, or other people's artwork), that would be a problem. - Jmabel ! talk 20:08, 4 December 2024 (UTC)

Uploading better versions of an image
Is there an efficient way to upload an alternate version of an image (that is, one that isn't compliant with the overwriting guidelines) and integrate it with existing ones? The best I've found so far is copying the description of the original file into Special:Upload. JayCubby (talk) 17:05, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
JayCubby, I'm not sure what you're asking and I think these type of questions are best suited for COM:HD.Ratekreel (talk) 19:06, 4 December 2024 (UTC)- Disregard above reply, I thought we were on Commons:Overwriting existing files/Requests. Ratekreel (talk) 19:21, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
- @JayCubby: that is pretty much what I do. Express the connection by linking the two using {{Other version}} or a more specialized template pair ({{Extracted images}} / {{Extracted from}}; {{Derivative works}} / {{Derived from}}; etc.) - Jmabel ! talk 20:18, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
