The bridge in question was only built in 2011. As a result, and since there's no FOP in Greece, this photo should be deleted. 🏺ⲈⲨⲐⲨⲘⲈⲚⲎⲊ🏛️ ⲱⲑⲏⲥⲁⲧⲉ 13:35, 4 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • @JWilz12345: What EU directive are you talking about? IronGargoyle (talk) 23:11, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@IronGargoyle both Greece and France are under the guidance of the copyright directives of the European Union. The EU region may have different threshold of originality standards for works of architecture, engineering, and architecture than those of the United States, which does not treat bridges as works of art. While France has high bar for actual buildings, they do not treat bridges as ordinary works of engineering. We should assume Greece has similar copyright rules for bridges. I never suggested that Greece had the same standards as the US, just that there was no evidence that bridges were protected in Greece. I'm still not sure what EU Directive you're talking about. Different EU countries clearly have different FoP standards from each other, so France has zero relevance in this case (I will add, as an aside, that I have never been shown a bit of French law or jurisprudence that suggests bridges are protected there either. Just a small handful of editors saying "trust me, they are"). We need some evidence that bridges are protected by copyright in this jurisdiction. Kept: The description on COM:FOP Greece is inconclusive, so it must be concluded "we simply do not know exactly what is permitted". Meanwhile, many photos exist on Commons of modern bridges in Greece. See for instance hundreds of photos in Category:Rio-Antirio Bridge only, which bridge was completed in 2004. So I think we should have a broader discussion about this before deciding to delete images of modern bridges in Greece. When this is finalized, the DR can be reopened. Perhaps JWilz12345 can start a discussion about this in the copyright Village pump. --Ellywa (talk) 20:28, 24 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
