With the usual integer coordinates (permutations of ${\displaystyle (0,\pm 1,\pm 1)}$ and ${\displaystyle (0,\pm 1,\pm 2)}$) the edge length is ${\displaystyle {\sqrt {2}}\approx 1.414}$ and the distance between corresponding squares is 1.
