As photographer describes most of it: “These are the doctors and nurses of the San Salvatore Hospital in Pesaro, Italy, the city of my birth and where I once again reside, which from day one has sadly been at the top of the COVID-19 contagion and death charts. I photographed them at the end of their shifts—twelve hours without a break during their fight in an unequal war. In the quiet moments in front of my camera, these embattled individuals are in a state of total abandon, victims of an exhaustion that eats away at the body and the mind, a breathlessness that renders one disoriented, detached from time and space. They would take off their masks, caps, and gloves in front of my lens, remaining motionless, looking for some sort of normalcy amid the hell they were living.”

Come il fotografo le descrive: “Questi sono i medici e i paramedici dell'Ospedale San Salvatore di Pesaro, Italia, la mia città di nascita e il luogo dove sono tornato a vivere, che dal primo giorno è stata tristemente in vetta alle statistiche di contagi e decessi per COVID-19. Li ho fotografati alla fine dei loro turni da 12 ore senza interruzioni durante la loro lotta in una guerra impari. Nei momenti di calma davanti alla mia macchina, questi individui sotto attacco sono in uno stato di totale abbandono, vittime di uno sfinimento che divora il corpo e la mente, una mancanza di respiro che rende disorientati, disconnessi dal tempo e dallo spazio. Si toglievano le maschere, i berretti e i guanti davanti al mio obiettivo, rimanendo inerti, cercando qualche sorta di normalità in mezzo all'inferno in cui stavano vivendo.”
