English: The Macchi MC.202 Folgore ( Italian "thunderbolt") was a World War II fighter aircraft built by Macchi Aeronautica and operated by the Regia Aeronautica (RA; Royal (Italian) Air Force). Macchi aircraft designed by Mario Castoldi received the "C" letter in their model designation, hence the Folgore is referred to as the MC.202. Considered one of the most beautiful fighters to fly with wartime Axis forces, the C.202 was a development of the earlier C.200 Saetta, with a more powerful German Daimler-Benz DB 601 engine and with an extremely streamlined fuselage. Undoubtedly the best wartime fighter to serve in large numbers with the Regia Aeronautica, the Folgore operated on all fronts in which Italy was involved.
Italiano: Il Macchi M.C.202 Folgore era un aereo monomotore, monoposto, ad ala bassa progettato e prodotto dall'azienda italiana Aeronautica Macchi nel 1941-1942 ed impiegato nell'ultimo conflitto dalla Regia Aeronautica. Derivato dal M.C.200, l'M.C.202 conservava del suo predecessore le ali e la coda ma aveva una fusoliera assai più affusolata ed aerodinamica e - soprattutto - era equipaggiato con il più potente motore tedesco DB601A, in seguito costruito su licenza dall'Alfa Romeo.
