Tip: Categorizing images
edit
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 20:33, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

editWe need more photos like these for WLM-US. I was thinking that some of your photos looked familiar. In particular our paths crossed (with some delay) in Jenkintown. Your File:Strawbridge and Clothier Store, Jenkintown PA 02.JPG, is likely much better than mine. I haven't looked, but remember fighting the sun and the traffic to get any half-decent shot. Also you took a photo of another library nearby, which I at first mistook for the Jenkintown Library. In any case keep the photos coming. Maybe we'll cross paths in real time someday,

- Thanks a lot. I hope this September will be sunny - it would help in all respects. You are right - Union Library is pretty similar to the library in Jenkintown, maybe a bit smaller. Congratulations with the great job on WLM-US organizing. Best, Shuvaev (talk) 13:56, 11 September 2012 (UTC)
Autopatrol given
editHello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. INeverCry 18:43, 22 October 2012 (UTC)

Coffeetown Grist Mill
editHello Shuvaev,
You have uploaded pictures of a house in the vicinity of the Grist Mill and referred to it as the "Miller's House".
This is, in fact, not the "Miller's House". The original Miller's House is stucco-over-stone, was built in 1792, is situated across "FRY's RUN" stream from the Grist Mill (not across the road), and has been accepted for nomination by the Pennsylvania Historic Commission and such. Please remove pictures of alternate building and references to it as being the "Miller's House".
Thank you much.
Cathedrals
editHi Shuvaev,
I see you have uploaded photos from southeast Pennsylvania. I was wondering if you ever get to the Allentown-Bethlehem area? If so could you photograph the w:Cathedral of Saint Catharine of Siena in Allentown and the w:Cathedral Church of the Nativity (Bethlehem, Pennsylvania)? There are several pages on Wikipedia for those photos, and I've been trying get photos of all the cathedrals in the US. I never seem to make up to that area. Thanks for considering this request. Farragutful (talk) 19:28, 26 July 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Farragutful, please look images in Category:Fountain Hill Historic District. There are several photos of Nativity Episcopal Cathedral. Is this church you are looking for? Best wishes, Shuvaev (talk) 19:58, 26 July 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, that is it. Thanks. Farragutful (talk) 20:09, 26 July 2015 (UTC)
- Great. I'll try to fit my trip with the Cathedral in Allentown whenever I'll go over there. It may take several weeks. Best wishes, Shuvaev (talk) 20:39, 26 July 2015 (UTC)
- I appreciate the consideration. Farragutful (talk) 21:02, 26 July 2015 (UTC)

Dolington Village Historic District has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |

Source of derivative work is not properly indicated: File:Moscow, Khimkinskoe cemetery scheme.JPG
editThis file may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Moscow, Khimkinskoe cemetery scheme.JPG, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.
While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |
