Caucasus

edit

Hi, my compliments for the ethnic map of the Caucasus. There is one typing error, though - Kabardino-Balkaria has become "Karachay-Balkaria". I don't think the Kabardinians are going to appreciate this. :) I can't fix this, I hope you could?--91.148.159.4 18:17, 10 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Also, I just noticed Karachay-Cherkessia has become "Karachay-Cherkessk" (Cherkessk is just the city). Of course, that's not so much of a problem, because it can't cause any confusion in practice. --91.148.159.4 18:30, 10 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Problem solved :) ! Just in case you need to correct svg files again, you can simply use a text editor and search for the treacherous string, as svg files are just XML-ish text files. Pmx 00:09, 12 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello, Pmx!

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Please help replace this outdated license

edit

Hello!

Thank you for donating images to the Wikimedia Commons. You have uploaded some images in the past with the license PD. While this was a license acceptable in the early days of Wikimedia, since January 2006, this license has been deprecated and since October 2008 no new uploads with this license was allowed.

The license on older images should be replaced with a better and more specific license/permissions and you can help by checking the images and adding PD-self if you are the author or one of the other templates that you can see in the template on the image page.

Thank you for your help. If you need help feel free to ask at Commons talk:Licensing or contact User:Zscout370.

The images we would like you to check are:

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content: images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose.

File:Le Petit Journal 7 Oct 1906.jpg seems to be free (or it would be proposed for deletion), but it was identified as having a wrong license. You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Eddy Mitchell, Pic, 5.jpg) and the above demanded information in your request.

edit

File:Eddy Mitchell, Pic, 5.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Bretagne-pays.png, was missing information about where it comes from or who created it, which is needed to verify its copyright status. The file probably has been deleted. If you've got all required information, request undeletion providing this information and the link to the concerned file (:File:Bretagne-pays.png).

If you created the content yourself, enter Own as the source. If you did not add a licensing template, you must add one. You may use, for example, GFDL or Cc-zero to release certain rights to your work.

If someone else created the content, or if it is based on someone else's work, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you!

Thank you for participating in Wiki Loves Earth 2015!

Dear Pmx,

On behalf of the Wikipedia community and Wikimedia Spain, organizer of the Spanish edition of Wiki Loves Earth 2015, we want to say thank you for your participation, and especially for contributing your pictures to the free knowledge. Thanks to the participation of people like you, the contest has gathered thousands of pictures of natural heritage sites from 25 countries.

You can find all your uploaded pictures in your upload log, and you are of course very welcome to keep uploading images (WLE is still running) and hence help to develop Wikimedia Commons. Commons community meets in the Village Pump.

If you'd like to start editing relevant Wikipedia articles and share your knowledge with other people, please go to the Wikipedia Welcome page for more information, guidance, and help.

You are more than welcome to leave us a comment, suggestion or question. You can post them here.

Kind regards,

the Wiki Loves Earth team

Dear Pmx,

As every year, Wiki Loves Earth in Spain, an international photographic contest about natural heritage sites in the Spanish territory, started on May 1st. On behalf of the Wikipedia community and Wikimedia España (WM-ES), and as a participant in former editions of the event, we'd like to encourage you to participate in the 2018 edition. We do know that you've been keen on contributing your work to the free knowledge in the past and therefore believe that you'll be glad to help us again to document biodiversity.

If you have comments, questions or suggestions about the contest, they are more than welcome. You can leave them here. You can review the rules of the contest in it official site (Spanish).

We look forward to your free images!

We take also the opportunity to invite you to Wiki Loves 2017 awards ceremony, which will take place on June 16th at 17:00 in the Medialab-Prado auditorium, in Madrid. Open entry until filled to capacity.

Sincerely,

The team of the Wiki Loves Earth edition in Spain
