Tip: Categorizing images
edit
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.TUSC token e1781f665f441c6bae368ce87542b428

Ribbon Bars Request
editHi McOleo. I'd like to thank you for your creating excellent ribbon bars. I've used some of them in articles related to Tanzanian politicians; e.g. Nyerere, Salim Ahmed Salim and Kikwete.
I'd like to request you, if possible, to please create the ribbon bars for the following:
Order/Medal | Image source |
---|---|
Order of Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere | source |
rder of the United Republic of Tanzania | image |
War Medal (Tanzania) | image |
Order of the Green Crescent of the Comoros | source |
Order of Katonga (Uganda) | source |
National Liberation Medal | source |
Campaign Against Genocide Medal | source |
May I also ask what software do you use to create these ribbons? Can I use the Paint programme? AliFazal (talk) 12:48, 27 September 2013 (UTC)
Thanks
editHi. Thanks for replying and for creating the two ribbon bars. It's perfect. AliFazal (talk) 23:07, 3 October 2013 (UTC)
Medals
editHi. I've found a better sample for the order of the republic. I have also found some other ribbon bars and would request you to create them when you're free.
Medal | Image |
---|---|
Order of the United Republic of Tanzania (civilian) | source |
Tanganyika Independence Medal (civilian) | source |
Medal for Excellent Production | source |
Medal of the Revolution (civilian) | source last line or second source |
Medal of Long Service & Ethical Conduct (civilian) | source |
I really appreciate your assistance. The articles appear much better with the ribbons. AliFazal (talk) 13:01, 5 October 2013 (UTC)
Ribbons
editHi. The ribbons are just fantastic! Regarding the Nishani ya Jamhuri ya Muungano wa Tanzania, I'm not sure but I'd assume it is an Order; although there are some links calling it a medal. You may create it with using its Kiswahili name as the title of the file. I found photographs of these other medals:
Medal | Image | colours |
---|---|---|
Medal for Environmental Care | source | green and blue on the edges; yellow, black, yellow, black, yellow |
Anjouan Medal | source | green and blue on the edges; yellow, black, yellow. |
Order of Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere | source | Green, yellow, black, yellow, Blue |
You may find this youtube clip useful. Medal for Environment at 1.07 and 2.06 |
Thanks for all your help. I really do appreciate. AliFazal (talk) 11:51, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
Kagera River Medal
editHi. Thanks for bringing the above medal to my attention. I had seen it before. This award was instituted by the former Ugandan President Idi Amin who awarded it to his troops in 1978 for annexing part of the Tanzanian Kagera Region. The current one is known as Kagera Medal and is awarded to those who fought against Idi Amin.
Thanks once again for creating the other medals. You've put in great effort. I would request you, if possible, to create the Tanzanian Anjouan medal - this was awarded by Tanzania to its troops who participated in the 2008 invasion of Anjouan. AliFazal (talk) 11:22, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
ODM of Tanzania
editHi. I trust you're well. I have re-arranged the medals section of the ODM of Tanzania into Army, Police and Prisons.I'd like to request you, during your free time, if you could assist in creating the ribbon bars for these three sections. You may find the following sources helpful: 1 and 2. Thanks. AliFazal (talk) 23:55, 12 October 2013 (UTC)
Thanks
editHi. Many thanks for your suggestions. I had used the word 'former' as it is used in Template:Decorations by country. I have now used the word 'obsolete' in the Ugandan and Rwandan ODM articles. I have also restored the ODM medal list of TZ to its former version. Is it better now?
Can I also request that you create the ribbon for: National Order of the Republic of Burundi. Source = 1 and 2. Thanks. AliFazal (talk) 19:41, 14 October 2013 (UTC)
Burundi ribbon
editHi. Thanks once again for your impressive work. Regarding the Burundi ribbons, the ribbon bar of the medal that was given to President Nyerere in this photo resembles the Order of Patriotic Merit. I then found this source from another language article of Nyerere confirming that it was the National Order indeed. The only image that I came across was this (the one awarded to Prince Al Waleed). I'd like to know your opinion. Also request you to please send me the link of the source of the ribbon bar for the national order of Burundi. AliFazal (talk) 11:38, 17 October 2013 (UTC)
Maurice Rindskopf
editHi - I saw that you deleted the category USS Drum from Rindskopf's image. Did you do that knowing that the Drum was his WWII submarine, the one from which he was the last surviving commanding officer of any WWII submarine? Seems germane, but views differ. Hello!
Thank you for uploading File:Dr. Waheed.jpg to the Wikimedia Commons. I noticed that when you uploaded from another Wikimedia project, you left out some important information, or copied it incorrectly. In the future, please consider using CommonsHelper, a tool which automates the process of moving files over. Thank you,

editHi McOcloe. I trust that you are well. Can you please create the following ribbon bars of Botswana: Founder Officer Medal, Duty Code Order and Distinguished Service Medal. I'd like to use it for this article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ian_Khama#Honours_and_awards. You may find this useful: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orders,_decorations,_and_medals_of_Botswana#Orders Thanks. Ali Fazal (talk) 15:52, 12 August 2015 (UTC)

File tagging File:Pharoah Sanders (1981) by Wojciech Soporek.jpg
editThis media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading File:Pharoah Sanders (1981) by Wojciech Soporek.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT ([email protected]). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you. |
