We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file. |
Castellano-Español
editHola Davius.
Saludos. Lin linao ¿dime? 17:35, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

Haida population chart
editI can't add your chart, which is a needed concept for various indigenous peoples, as I'm uncertain/uncomfortable with the population figures it represents; are there really 8000+ Haida today? I don't think so, not anywhere near that many. What were your sources here? (please note that the population of the Queen Charlotte Islands is not the same thing, and is only 50% Haida or less...).Skookum1 (talk) 16:13, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
- Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
- State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly. If it is from another Wikimedia user, link to the person's local user page. Best to use CommonsHelper.
- If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
- Add a copyright tag - images without an appropriate license tag will be deleted.
- Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate categories, so it can be found by others. To find out where an image belongs, you can use CommonsSense.
If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki. Use CommonsHelper.
It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.
You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file.
Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more information, follow the Commons:First steps guide. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the Help desk.
Thank you. This message was added automatically by Nikbot, if you need some help about it, ask its master (Filnik) or go to the Commons:Help desk. --Filnik 18:19, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
File tagging File:Adposition.png
editThis media was probably deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:Adposition.png. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT ([email protected]). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Adposition.png ) and the above demanded information in your request. |
Chibchan got lost
editHi Davius,
I noticed in your revision of File:SouthAmerican families.png that Chibchan disappeared, but still appears in the key. (BTW, I may not see this here, but will on WP-en.) Kwamikagami (talk) 06:48, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
- That's good. But I wonder about including Mataco-Guaicuru, which has not been established, and Puelche-Het, when Puelche is only spoken by a handful of people, and Het is unattested and not know to be related to Puelche? While Quechuan and Aymara, which truly are major families, are not included. Kwamikagami 15:15, 30 April 2011 (UTC)
Tip: Categorizing images
edit
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 21:47, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi there! Very nice work on this map. I added some comments, issues and questions on the image's talk page. Looking forward for your reply. Best regards.--Codrin.B (talk) 15:19, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
Hi Davius, I noticed you made a map about yeísmo in Spain. I think it has some minor mistakes. Why did you include all the Catalan and Valencian coast, e.g. Tarragonés, Bajo Ebro, la Safor (e.g. Gandia), Marina Alta, etc. as yeístas? It seems wrong. Does this map have a source? Yeísmo is less advanced in Catalan and Valencian than in Spanish. I don't really get why Valladolid is in "solid pink" (distinción), while Xàtiva, Benissa, Dénia, Gandia, etc. are rendered in "grey" (yeístas). It makes no sense to me.
AFAIK, there is yeísmo in the cities of Valencia and Alicante (same as in the city of Valladolid), but not in rural areas where Valencian is commonly spoken (except young generations, as in most of northern Spain). Keep in mind, the metropolitan areas of Valencia and Alicante do not cover the whole coast. In additon, the phoneme /ʎ/ is still heard in Southern Alicante (i.e. La Vega Baja) and many parts of the Region of Murcia, mainly by people aged older than 35-40 years (i.e. excl. new generations, although there are exceptions). In the same way, there is no total yeísmo in the Tarragonan and Barcelonan coast, including Barcelona and Tarragona cities, where native Catalan pronounce ʎ.
Perhaps you can have a look at this source: Atlas lingüístico de la Península Ibérica (ALPI) - Mapa de isoglosas, it contains some curious maps. (Although it does not include bilingual areas, it includes areas you didn't add, as parts of Murcia and less parts of Andalusia).
I am sorry to bother you with these silly things. Is it possible you/we rectify this?
Yours, Jaume87 (talk) 03:32, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
Pre-Indo-European languages
editHi Davius, can you please help me? I appreciate very much your map of Pre-Indo-European languages attested by written sources. I would like to make a map of Pre-Indo-European languages according to substrate hypotheses. Can you please tell me how you made your map? Which toools did you use? Your account will be renamed
editHello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Davius. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Davius~commonswiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell

Image:Use_of_regional_languages.png
editHi Davius. I was creating some SVG version of images on Wikipedia. I came across this one uploaded by you: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Use_of_regional_languages.png?uselang=it
is it possible to have the original data you used for its creation? I tried to look for the cited sources (Survey Doxa 1982 and Coveri 1984) but i was not able to find anything online. Can you help me with it? (anche in italiano, se preferisci)
best, --Mikima (talk) 11:34, 30 September 2016 (UTC)

Source of derivative work is not properly indicated: File:Inflectional Morphology.png
editThis file may be deleted. |
A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Inflectional Morphology.png, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.
While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! |
