Deletion request

edit

You made a category Category:Venidium and I just requested that it be deleted because Category:Arctotis fastuosa already exists and Venidium and Arctotis are synonyms. There is a template to paste but none of the reasons expressed in the template choices had anything to do with my request. The category was well within scope and not a copyright violation and not a derivative work. I don't want you to be surprised. I can paste a url that confirms this if it would help your day any. I am not putting you on my watch list either, so let me know if you would like the documentation that caused the deletion request.

The template would have been easier, btw. -- carol (talk) 20:57, 22 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

prunus persica var. compressa

edit

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Hello, Cillas!

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Sorting of Category:Zanthoxylum

edit

Hi Cillas, why did you destroy the sorting of Category:Zanthoxylum? It's common for species to be sorted this way in genus categories. Multichill (talk) 12:48, 29 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi multichill. I did not destroy anything. I only changed the category of some species categories in order to a better arrangement in the Category:Zanthoxylum page. I think now is right. Don't you agree?--Cillas (talk) 10:12, 30 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
Cillas, please don't hop talk pages. I have a watchlist and I use it. I don't agree, all the species are now at Z. I'll restore the sorting. Multichill (talk) 10:17, 30 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Narcissus hispanicus

edit

Dear Alfredo,

I am consulting you as expert of the genus Narcissus. I have in my garden several "botanic" daffodils, among others Narcissus bulbocodium, Narcissus romieuxii, Narcissus ×medioluteus and the so-called Narcissus hispanicus.

According to the GRIN taxonomy Narcissus hispanicus should now be called Narcissus pseudonarcissus subsp. major. However I have seen that pictures of this taxon have been recently renamed as Narcissus muñozii-garmendiae.

Please help me to clarify this issue.

Best regards, --Réginald (To reply) 17:10, 14 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Dear Reginald,
The group of trumpet daffodils with concolorous yellow perigon that lives in Spain is difficult and I have not a conclusion about all. But I can tell you some things.
1) N. hispanicus Gouan could be N. bicolor var. concolor. It is the only large trumpet daffodil with concolorous perigony that lives in Spain and France as says Gouan.
2) N. muñozii-garmendiae is a good specie with a restricted distribution area. [1]
In [2] you can see a N. muñozii-garmendiae erroneously identified as N. hispanicus by the author. It has been changed of category according to various classifications.
3) Some botanist have used other names for the concolorous trumpet daffodils: N. bujei, N. confusus, N. longispathus, N. major, N. obvallaris, N. portensis, etc. In my opinion some (as N. major) are ambiguous and other (as N. portensis) are superfluous.
4) A have took a quick look at genus Narcissus in GRIN and I have saw many errors. I wouldn't recommend it.
I hope to have help you. Best regards, Cillas (talk) 10:36, 15 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, Alfredo. --Réginald (To reply) 13:16, 15 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi

We are writing a book on spices and herbs.

The title is “Krydderleksikon med urter og smakstilsetninger” (Encyclopedia of spices and herbs). Print run is 5000 copies and the book will be published in May this year. It will be illustrated with photos of all the plants.

Most of the photos are already provided for but we still miss some picture.

We have found your photo of Drimys winteri on the Internet and we wonder if you kindly will let us use the photo in our book.

My name is Edoardo Bit, I am an architect and also a “young researcher” of the University of Ferarra (Italy).

I am writing a book on the “green walls technologies” and I have found very interesting some photos in your page. So, I would kindly ask you if I can use them in my book.

Obviously, if you gently decide to grant me the permission, your name (or your nickname) and the link of the pictures will be correctly cited in the credits of my publication.

Category:Mandarins

edit

Mandarins has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!
