- Coasterpedia:Go-Karts - result: no changes, Go-Karts may be added if they are at an amusement park with other rides
New ride categories
Roller coasters and Water slides currently have advanced infoboxes with some auto-categorising possibilities. The first part of this proposal is currently already active; Category1 can now be used to add the ride type, which will also auto-categorise the page. This makes editors able to delete the now redundant ride type category on the pages once Category1 is in use.
What other additions could this add?
The addition of categories could allow for better categorisation of ride pages, similair to coaster and slide pages. I have currently added three categories as tests at this point. This excludes the Indoor and Enclosed categories that where already present, but now integrated in the category system.
- Twin
Currently split in Triple and Quartet rides, but this might all be fused in one category. I am thinking of Multi rides but not sure yet. This category is reserved for rides that, as the name suggests, have multiple rides on the same plot, sharing an entrance/queue. This is mostly done by parks for extra capacity. Think of simulators or S&S drop towers that commonly have multiple installations.
- Interactive
This category might be one that is too vague. But the main idea was for grouping rides where the riders can influence the ride experience directly. Think of shooter dark rides, sky fly's, jet's, splash battles etc. Like I said, this one might be axed
- Water
As straightforward as the name suggests; it groups water rides. What counts as a water ride? A ride that wouldn't function without water. Think of log flumes, river rapids or normal boat rides. This also includes splash battles, even the ones that have elevated track such as Splash Battle. That is since these rides would not work as intended without water. This thus excludes top spins with fountains, as those can function as intended just fine without the fountains. I decided on this category because water rides are hard to search for currently without going through every water ride type individually.
What do you think of this idea? And what categories would be good to add as well? I would love to hear it! --QDude24 (talk) 21:40, 13 May 2024 (UTC)
- The multi category makes most sense to me out of these three as unlike the others it doesn't link in with ride type. Whereas for water rides or interactive rides these correspond generally with the existing ride types. I think we should split by number though to make it more interesting. - I do agree that interactive is a bit vague, but I don't see why it would be an issue that water would correspond with many existing ride types. After all; many coaster categories also correspond with many of the same models. And beside; Water Rides are a populair ride type often looked at seperatly from coasters and flat rides, which is why I thought having a master list could be nice. - I think what would be helpful for the water type before we start adding pages to it would be an article for Water rides with a definition and a list of ride types that fall under it. Then the infobox can link to that page. Lachlan (Talk | contribs) 15:50, 14 May 2024 (UTC)

"The" in article titles
Per Coasterpedia:Manual of Style/Naming convention we currently ommit "The" from ride, coaster, and slide titles. The motivation at the time was that it was a consistent approach that removed arguments about whether "The" should be included. Is this still the best way to do it? Given the number of rides for brands like "The Joker" that sound a bit silly without "The" that have been added lately, I think it is time for a change.
Should we change our Manual of Style and instead ask that "The" is included if it is present on the ride entrance/logo? DEFAULTSORT
tags can be added to articles so they'll still sort in categories as if "The" wasn't there. Lachlan (Talk | contribs) 12:49, 3 July 2024 (UTC)
- I think it makes most sense to align all rides with park names, so all for this change 👍 Alex (talk) 12:57, 3 July 2024 (UTC)
- We already exclude brands from this rule, as seen in the manual of style. And I do think "The (or its equivalent in another language) should be excluded, otherwise alphabetical view would look quite bad. QDude24 (talk) 17:09, 3 July 2024 (UTC)
- In categories, they'd still be sorted excluding "The" - this is a common practise, in English at least. Are there other areas where you think it will look bad? Lachlan (Talk | contribs) 21:17, 3 July 2024 (UTC)
- This won't work as well for other languages I reckon, especially since we ONLY remove it if its in the native language (for example; El Rio is El Rio in Bobbejaanland, Belgium, but Rio if it would be in Spain) QDude24 (talk) 15:59, 5 July 2024 (UTC)
- Where is that rule written? I don’t see that in Coasterpedia:Manual of Style/Naming convention, plus that’s just objectively ridiculous. While it might work for some of the common European languages, how can we possibly do that for other languages where the word actually changes depending on whether it starts with the or a or nothing at all. We don’t speak or understand every single language, so surely it makes most sense just to stick with the name the park calls it and call it a day? We should be trying to keep the rules simple for everyone to understand and I don’t understand the benefit of overcomplicating it. Alex (talk) 19:11, 5 July 2024 (UTC)
- Aren't we already being consistent in that case, but just with pagenames rather than sorting... ? Lachlan (Talk | contribs) 21:26, 6 September 2024 (UTC)
