
Chung Kun Shih
I graduated from the National Taiwan University with a B. S. degree in Chemical Engineering in 1972. I went to the US for graduate study in August 1974. I received a M. S. in Chemical Engineering from University of Pennsylvania in 1975. In 1978, I received a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from University of Pennsylvania and a M. S. in Operations Research from Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. After studying at night for 3 and half years while working, I received a MBA in Marketing from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1982. I worked for Merck from 1978 to 1981 and Exxon Chemical’s Paramins Division from 1981 to 1998. In 1999, I was transferred to Infineum - a joint venture between Exxon Chemical and Shell Chemical. In September 2009, I retired from Infineum after 28 years of combined service for Exxon Chemical and Infineum. Since December 2004, I have been a Visiting Professor on Paleoentomology in the School of Life Sciences of Beijing Capital Normal University as a volunteer. Since May, 2015, I have been a volunteer Research Associate with the National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution. My research interests include morphology, taxonomy, phylogeny and evolution of northeastern Chinese fossil insects and Myanmar amber insects and their interactions with plants and other members in their respective ecosystems. So far, I have co-authored 3 books and 193 papers on insect and plant fossils, including one in Science, two in PNAS, three in Current Biology, two in Cladistics and four in Proceedings of Royal Society B.
