[6.75/10] Eternals (2021)

Eternals (2021)

Quick Review: Tossing all at once - an elaborate, yet slow and uneven plot, a bunch of all-new characters with little depth, and busy, if always swanky action, "Eternals" is a lot to take in, little of which is thrilling, but it stands out with an untypically dim tone, racial and sexual diversity and all the serious topics it touches, as well as with Zhao's flair and skill to visualize grand cosmic imagery and flashy superpowers with the help of first-class CGIs, even if her direction feels kinda passion-less.

[9.00/10] Spider-Man: No Way Home [3D] (2021)

Spider-Man: NWH (2021)

Quick Review: Every Marvel freak dream-come-true, "NWH" integrates the Multiverse in a deftly nostalgic, if crowded way by reviving a bunch of our beloved villains to deliver one of the most elaborate, soul-stirring and surprise-filled MCU flicks so far, but also the darkest and most dramatic Spider-Man film yet, which balances out the emotional moments with light humor, rare, albeit epic-level grand action set pieces and stellar effects, though the starry cast arouses the biggest excitement here.

[6.25/10] Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021)

Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021)

Quick Review: A full-blown goof-fest with body-tearing nastiness and a relentlessly nutty villain, who lives up to his name, this short-n-sweet, if rushed sequel benefits from Hardy's zany one man show in the first half, where he contradicts with his inner Venom-self, but the big fun comes when he clashes with Carnage in an action-packed CGI-enhanced havoc of a third act that compensates for Cletus' ill-fitting kooky romance and Shriek's weak backstory.

[9.50/10] Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings [3D] (2021)

Shang-Chi [3D] (2021)

Quick Review: A rousing if emotive story about an endearing friendship and a family torn by grief that shifts between the present and an 'wuxia' fantasy world which honors Chinese mythology, the deftly-filmed "Shang-Chi" flaunts vibrant visual artfulness alongside the masterful fights, jaw-dropping stunts, and swanky action, enhanced by superb CGIs and nifty use of 3D, but its Asian cast is just as glorious -- Liu breathes his hero, Leung domineers, whilst Awkwafina brings the wit and humor.

[7.25/10] Black Widow (2021)

Black Widow (2021)

Quick Review: More of a 'family' reunion dramedy meets an assassin spy thriller, than your standard MCU 'origin' story, "BW" manifests a less ferocious and more sentimental side of Natasha, which Johansson owns, but it's truly Pugh's show as Yelena, who delivers all the wit and laughs, and though more talky than action- packed, the movie boasts with some stupendous set pieces, notably the prison break, as well as some hard-hitting fights with Task Master, even if he's vastly underused.

[7.50/10] Spider-Man: Far From Home [3D] (2019)

Spider-Man: Far From Home [3D] (2019)

Quick Review: Giving the needed comic relief after "Endgame" with its breezy style, but also by playing it safe, and set in various EU cities for a change, the romcom-ish "FFH" is actionized by well-staged set pieces with cool disaster and creature CGIs and elevated by fun 'illusive' visual tricks, notably in its flashy third act, which despite the obvious plot twist, still delivers thanks to the dynamics between the gawky Spidey and the cunning villain, Mysterio.

[5.50/10] Dark Phoenix [3D] (2019)

Dark Phoenix [3D] (2019)

Quick Review: A bland, disjointed, lazily-directed, emotionally lackluster and underwhlmingly simplified recap of The Dark Phoenix Saga, this final entry in the X-Men series has a few visually arresting set pieces with hip CGIs and entertaining action, but it burns out to ashes the potential of its fiery protagonist, due to a flawed script devoid of wit, humor, soul, and coherence, a recycled plot with stale ideas, nearly wasted ensemble cast, and a cool-looking villain that is as futile as the movie itself.

[9.50/10] Avengers: Endgame [3D] (2019)

Avengers: Endgame [3D] (2019)

Quick Review: Driven by emotions rather than action, full of curveballs, and with a gloomy tone balanced by light humor, the delightfully crowded "Endgame" plays it like a nostalgic time-travel throwback at the entire MCU through its patchy and busy, if methodical and increasingly exciting plot that culminates in a staggering third act, featuring a colossally epic grand battle that dazzles the eyes, followed by a dramatically affecting finale that hits the heart.

[6.75/10] Captain Marvel [3D] (2019)

Captain Marvel [3D] (2019)

Quick Review: Lacking any action spectacle until the blasting final act, and with CGIs that are rarely 'wow', "Captain Marvel" is no visual marvel, though it charms with its '90s vibe, plus, despite its directors' attempts to put a feminist twist and shake up its plot, the 'origin story' formula still feels overly familiar, not to say that Larson is never fully invested in the character, and yet, MS' first female superhero film has some emotional weight to it, enough thrills, and a few funny bits along the way.

[9.00/10] Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse [3D] (2018)

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)

Quick Review: A highly innovative stylistic blend of authentically hand- drawn graphics and flashy CGIs with stop-motion effect, further enriched by unique character animation, lurid colors, and extraordinary 3D depth, "Into the Spider-Verse" is a vibrant, busy, and wildly imaginative, yet tad overwhelming visual treat full of life, humor, energy and heart that brings our Spidey back to his playful comic book roots, delivering heaps of fun, thrills, and kinetic action.

[5.75/10] Venom [3D] (2018)

Venom [3D] (2018)

Quick Review: Sluggish in its first half and pretty rushed in its second, therefore jumbled, inconsistent, and tonally all over the place, this Marvel film may be a cool-looking romp with flashy 'shapeshifting' CGIs, suitably inky imagery, and skillfully-executed action, notably the frantic motorbike chase, but despite Tom Hardy's true commitment to the titular character, "Venom" ends up being a semi-fun, quasi-satisfactory, and demi-badass flick with not bite or zest that suffers from major identity crisis.
