Frankincense is an aromatic resin obtained from trees of the genus Boswellia. It has been used for thousands of years in religious ceremonies, traditional medicine, and perfumery. The resin is harvested by making incisions in the tree bark, allowing the sap to bleed out and harden into “tears.” Once collected, the resin can be burned as incense or steam-distilled to produce essential oil.
