The next generation mobile terminals are equipped with multiple interfaces to associate themselves with one or more networks at the same time. Vertical handover techniques facilitate the user to have ubiquitous access with desired quality of service but increased energy consumption with time. Thus energy aware vertical handover techniques are highly desirable in present era of heterogeneous networks. In this work, an approach to energy efficient vertical handover technique has been suggested and analyzed for different traffic classes. The proposed approach is based on vector normalized preferred performance based VIKOR algorithm (V-VPP) for performing handover. It resulted in lesser energy consumption in the presence of three interfaces WLAN, WIMAX and cellular interface operating simultaneously.

The main objective of this work is to improve QoS in network by reducing link load and bandwidth consumption. It uses a routing scheme that satisfies expected demand and minimized link utilization of system. It works on reliability by limited usage of bandwidth. Results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of system. The efficient QoS model provides better control and administration of network traffic. Solution of routing problem with help of proposed model allows providing the distribution of traffic between source- and destination-node so that delays along every path are equal.

UFMC seems to be most attractive because it provides better sub carrier separation like FBMC (Filer Bank Multi Carrier) and less complexity like OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing). Various approaches have been proposed for network selection in vertical handoff. Here we propose a new energy efficient network selection algorithm by considering three networks (CDMA, WIMAX &WLAN) for network selection .In this work, based on the power consumption, traffic class and current battery level of each network interface card , the mobile terminal lifetime is to be calculated. As the lifetime of mobile terminal decreases, we reduce the number of attributes and networks by eliminating the particular network form network list. AHP (Analytic hierarchical process) and TOPSIS (Technique for order of Preference by similarity to the Ideal Solution) are used for network selection.
