The study relied on the Universal Grammar Theory of Noam Chomsky of 1960. The informants of the study were 60 (26 males and 34 females): 1 (one) from the District Education Board Secretary's office, 2 (two) Head teachers, 4 (four) Deputy Head teachers, 3 (three) Heads of Departments, 2 (two) Heads of Sections, 8 (eight Subject Teachers and 40 learners. Purposive sampling was used to select participants positioned to give the needed information. Questionnaires, interview schedules, focus group discussions, lesson observation and assessment of learners' narrative composition scripts were the methods of data collection used. Both quantitative and qualitative approaches to data collection were employed. Quantitative data was analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 16 and Excel while qualitative data was analysed in a descriptive manner. The study revealed variations in the types of grammatical errors learners committed in narrative compositions in the four selected schools. The numbers and types of grammatical errors varied from school to school. Respondents further suggested to the investigation possible causes of grammatical errors learners made in narrative compositions. It was established that despite the variations as regards the types of grammatical errors learners made, some errors, namely spellings, tenses, punctuations, word order and paragraphing were common in all the four selected schools.

The details of the study were extracted from the data gathered from archives, interviews and literature reviewed on kingship. Findings point to a well-archived, once rock-solid Bemba kingship lineage to a degenerated Bemba kingship one today. Findings have revealed that the causes of the degeneration of the Bemba kingship are in print, electronic and oral tradition domains. Lifestyles interrogated point to a complete breakdown of the extended family system as one of the main reasons of the none-adherence to kingship ties. Other reasons established by the study include dynamics in the political, socio-economic, cultural practices and modernization. The study recommends various familial, community, stakeholder and government initiatives to support and restore the Bemba kingship.

The research design was Analytical and descriptive. Therefore, quantitative and qualitative data were collected from 400 learners using a questionnaire. The Relative Importance Index (RII) guided the identification and determination of factors influencing learners’ perceptions and attitudes regarding the learning of calculus. The data collected were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20.0. It was established that the majority of learners perceived calculus to be an important subject as it encouraged them to think deeply thus improving their ability to make daily life decisions. Consequently, learners have a positive perception of calculus and an equally positive attitude towards calculus. Furthermore, it was established that apart from learner effort, parenta...

The study involved 105 students from three selected secondary school in Lusaka district of Lusaka province in Zambia. The students were randomly selected and three secondary schools were purposively selected for this study. In addition, three (3) administrators and fifteen mathematics teachers also participated in the study. A descriptive survey research design was adopted and data was collected using an achievement test and a questionnaire. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyse quantitative data while themes were used for qualitative data collected through semi-structured interviews. The findings from past mathematics mock examinations revealed a significant difference in the mean scores between the pre COVID-19 period (M = 59.19; SD = 19.205) and during COVID-19 period (M = 49.99; SD = 13.050), (tstatistic = 3.870, pvalue = 0.003 < 0.05). The results and findings of this study revealed that reducing contact learning hours had a negative impact on students' attitude and achievement towards mathematics. In the pre COVID-19 period students expressed a positive attitude towards mathematics and high achievement was observed in mathematics compared to the period during COVID-19 pandemic. Based on the findings of this study there is need to increase contact learning hours when teaching mathematics in order to mitigate the impact of the pandemic on students' learning.

The study sought to determine the possible causes of learners' inability to apply simplification of algebraic expressions and solving linear equations in relation to identification of inverses in senior secondary school. A case study research design was employed to achieve the objectives and a sample of 100 grade 11 learners and 10 mathematics teachers from school A and school B participated in the study. To collect data the instruments used were a questionnaire, tests and interviews. Quantitative data was analyzed using an Excel statistical package while the reliability of the instruments was tested using Cronbach's alpha (α). The main findings the research study established are that learners misused and misapplied addition, subtraction, multiplication and division when simplifying algebraic expressions and forming linear equations. Learners also met challenges when it came to solving linear equations because they lacked knowledge of additive and multiplicative inverses. The main conclusions drawn from this research study are that misconceptions learners experience in algebra are attributed to the lack of conceptual knowledge and understanding and these misconceptions occurred frequently in learners.

With the addition of face-to-face residential schools, ZAOU students have the opportunity to access expert academic staff, quality learning resources and support services, plus meet and collaborate with other students. But how much do these professionals know about academic counselling? What are the students’ views of the academic counselling provided at ZAOU? Unquestionable, the ODL model provides students with personal control allowing them to study anywhere, anytime and at their own pace. But the question is to what extent? Is it embracive? Selected secondary schools of Mufulira District in Zambia were the focus of the study and a total of 21 Teachers and 97 pupils formed the sample population to whom questionnaires were administered. In addition, a 5-point Likert scale formed part of the research instrument used to investigate the phenomenon. The collected data was analysed using SPSS which allowed for simple frequency counts, percentages, means and analysis of variance. To further understand the phenomenon under study, data collected from the pupils by way of interviews and document reviews was analyzed using the QDA miner 4.0 version software. It was established that pupils faced the following challenges: computation of the shortest distance between points on the same latitude, distinguishing between knots and kilometres per hour, and distinguishing great circles and small circles.
