After much searching for an appropriate material to cover the fire board behind the fireplace (ceramic tile, limestone, stacked stone, slate, brick face, etc) we landed on corrugated steel. We saw this used as siding on a renovated Victorian building in Ludington MI and thought it would work. It looks great and it cost about $50 for three panels.
