Confidence is an important thing in speaking because without it speaking skill can not be well an... more Confidence is an important thing in speaking because without it speaking skill can not be well and it became one of some problems in speaking skill which faced by the students of SMK Negeri 2 Tembilahan. To solve the problem, the reseacher conducted the experimental research is that quasy experimental design by applying the debate technique. The aim of this research is to know the effectiveness of debate technique on students' confidence in speaking skill. The data collection technique in this research is questionnaire that consists of 20 Close Ended statements using Likert Scale type. The sample of this research is 33 students of XI grade of SMK Negeri 2 Tembilahan as control and experimental class. After getting the data using questionnaire, the reseacher find that debate technique is effective toward students' confidence in speaking skill with the result t-observed is 15,84 while t-table is 2,04 from 5% and 2,75 from 1%. The t-observed score is higher than t-table. Based on the result, H0 (null hypothesis) is rejected and Ha (alternative hypothesis) is accepted. It also means that debate technique is effective toward students' confidence in speaking skill at XI grad of SMK Negeri 2 Tembilahan in academic years 2017/2018.
This research is entitled " The Effectiveness of Using Cooperative Script Method to Improve Stude... more This research is entitled " The Effectiveness of Using Cooperative Script Method to Improve Students' Reading Comprehension on Recount Text of 8 th Grade Students of SMP N Kewapante, Maumere in Academic Year 2017/ 2018 ". The objective of this research is to investigate and to find out whether the use of cooperative script method effective to improve students' reading comprehension on recount text. The method of this research is experimental research especially quasi experimental research. In analyzing the data, the researcher combined both quantitative and qualitative data analysis. In qualitative data analysis, the researcher used interview technique in order to get information about students' perceptions in reading, while in quantitative data analysis, the researcher used SPSS version 16. The result of the research showed that the implementation of Cooperative Script Method in experimental class was more effective to help the students in reading comprehension on recount text compared to the use of the conventional method in control class of the eighth grade students of SMP N Kewapante, Maumere. It is also found that cooperative script method positively contributed to improve students' reading comprehension. Therefore ,the researcher suggests the teachers to use cooperative script method in order to improve students reading comprehension Additionally, cooperative script method can also motivate students to be more active, relax and enthusiastic to comprehend reading texts.

The second issue is about the quality of education in Indonesia's school is gravely uneven. Some schools have luxury facilities and infrastructure, while others barely have a school building. The paper concerns with investigating classroom interaction especially the classroom language use... more The paper concerns with investigating classroom interaction especially the classroom language used by teacher and students in teaching learning process in one Junior High School in Indramayu. Teacher's talk signals the classroom language that is used by the teacher in the classroom throughout the class periods. Meanwhile, students' talk signal classroom language that is used by the students. The study employs qualitative interaction analysis method involving fifty nine students and two teachers in two different classrooms. The data are gathered through non-participant observation and video recording. Classroom observations were conducted to gain the data concerning classroom interaction in teaching learning process. The data collecting was separated into twelve categories and analyzed using Flint (Foreign Language Interaction analysis) system adopted from Moscowitz that is widely used to investigate classroom interaction. The findings of this study showed that there are various verbal interactions used in classroom interaction. The data showed that the use of classroom language motivate students to speak and encourage the students to share their idea. But the data also showed that there are many obstacles in using classroom language. So it needs more effort from teachers and students to make classroom language familiar in the classroom.

The case is many students didn't recognise and aware of using it. this paper is trying to reveal the words derivation that the students use in their speaking class conversation whether or not it affected to the semantic. Dealing with vocabulary and grammar, speakers often choose certain vocabulary to express something and forming it into the correct grammatical rules, the choice of vocabulary that the speaker use during the planned speaking activity in the classroom and how this words implemented with the correct grammar in the form of literature dealing with morphology and semantic are the main focus of this paper. Many students didn't really aware with the use of derivational words, 3 numbers of students conversational scripts didn't insert any derivational words at all. While the other 2 insert very little derivational words. The method of analysis that the writer use to reveal the processes of derivation in more detail by noting three simultaneous processes, namely: a morphological process (e.g. changing the shape of an existing word by adding a prefix or suffix morpheme to an existing root morpheme) a syntactic process (changing the part of speech of a word, e.g. from verb to noun) and a semantic process (producing a new sense, agent, act, property).

This research purposed to describe the teaching process how Clustering Technique improves the students' writing skill of hortatory exposition text, and what influenced factors of their writing improvement. This is a Classroom Action Research. The participants of the research were the students of grade XI AB-3 of MA Darul Hikmah Pekanbaru. The data were collected in each cycle from observation checklists, field notes, interviews, and writing tests. Then the researcher found that Clustering Technique enables to improve better the students' writing skill of hortatory exposition text through the process of socializing, reviewing, controlling, monitoring, assisting, motivating, and practicing. Consequently, the students could improve their writing skill which involved the mean score improvement of writing indicators; grammar, vocabulary, mechanics, fluency, and organization. It could be seen from the improvement of the base score mean score (56.32), post-test I (64.23), and post-test II (73.85). Furthermore, the factors that influenced the improvement of their writing skill involved creative thinking, students' motivation, amount of writing practices, students' prior knowledge, and the teacher's role. To sum up, the implementation of Clustering Technique in teaching writing of hortatory exposition text could provide positive results on their writing skill.

The methods used in this research are observation and documentation. The research findings are; first, there are injustice conditions before the revolution have done by the aristocrats such as politic, economy, oppression, and so on which have to face by the citizens. Second, all the injustice has done by aristocrats made social disappointment and led to revolution. Third, the government, even in absolute monarchy term, could be ruined by united people in the same purpose; they wanted better change for their country.

It described the implementation of Project Based Learning (PJBL) done by pre-service teachers. The steps in project based learning were getting the idea, design the project, tune the project, do the project and exhibit the project. This study used qualitative approach by describing the implementation of the PJBL. The subjects were four teacher candidates of VI semester English Department in Wiralodra University. The findings showed that the concept of PJBL not completely actualized in the classroom. This condition lead to problematic situation for the pre-service teachers. Comprehensive understanding should be taken by pre-service teacher in implementing PJBL in teaching writing narrative text. It is needed to achieve the target of English learning. Thus a deeper understanding of PJBL is needed not only the technical implementation but also cognitive implementation.

The research method used was experimental one. Sample size of 60 students consist of 30 for experimental class and 30 for control class taken from SMP 15 and SMP 16 in Cirebon, West Java, and the sampling technique is cluster sampling. Research instrument used was the test and the result of speaking skill in the form of oral test (5 items), has been tested valid and reliable with coefficient of reliability at 0.732. The result showed. There is a significant effect of teaching techniques on students' speaking skill, as Fobserved = 2.833 and sig = 0.014 < 0.05.

The writer has objectives concerning the teaching learning process, among other things are: the instructional material, the instructional media, method and technique used, and the students' achievement. This research is qualitative research design, and the subjects of the research are the headmaster, the English teacher, and students. The result of the research has been shown in the research finding and has been discussed that (1) the instructional materials (2) the instructional media is important instrument to be used and interesting for students in teaching learning process; (3) the method used are direct method, total physical respond and grammar translation method, while the technique are songs, and dialogue; (4) the students' achievement score is taken from the first semester examination. Finally, the conclusion of this research is that in holding the English as local content, while the material given, teaching media, method and technique used have been suitable with the theory although those should be improved again.
The purpose of this research was to know what teacher talk constitute in classroom interaction, w... more The purpose of this research was to know what teacher talk constitute in classroom interaction, what learner talk constitute in classroom interaction and what percentages of the teacher and learner talk in classroom interaction. The methodology of research used in this research is interaction analysis. An English teacher and whole learners of VII A grade class at SMP N 2 Sindang were chosen as the sample in this research. The class is in the second semester in academic year 2009-2010. In this research the writer applied interview questions for teacher and learners and FIAC (Flanders Interaction Analysis Category). The result of this research showed that teacher more active than learner in the interaction. The teacher generally did most of talking during the lesson. In the available data showed that the teacher used more in indirect influence of FIAC category, they are; accepting feeling, encouragement, accepting or using idea of the learner, and asking question) rather than direct influence (lecturing, giving direction, and criticizing). It is about 49.6% / 16.4 %. Thus the total of teacher talk is 56.4% of the class time. Meanwhile the learners did more response rather than initiation with percentage 30.4% / 12.4% from the total learner talk is 42.8%. INTRODUCTION Teaching and learning process is an essential communication process between teacher and learner. For the massage, like information or material to be accepted well by learner, the use of effective approach is suggested. The approach must involving teacher and learner interaction. Based on the principle of teaching a language, the main objective of all language learning is the ability of using the target language (Azie and Alwasilah: 1996). This objective can be achieved by means of following various teaching methods among others by using different kinds of learning approach and technique. In English foreign Language (EFL) class, learners are still not familiar with English in daily conversation, except several learners who have background in using English in their home or environments. Because of that reason, teacher has some rule as facilitator to introduce them into new language especially as a model. To implement those functions teacher need to create an interactive climate in language classroom. Interaction is key word for language teachers.

The aims of this study are to describe the real meaning meaning contained in headline of on-line football sport news and to find out whether the meanings that appears in that headline and choice of words in the headline can represent the contents of the news, view from semantics study study. The data are taken and collected from headline of on-line football sport news from website Goal.com. In my study, the writer collected 20 data and analyzed it. The research method used in this study is descriptive method. The result shows that from 20 headlines, all of them can represent the content of the news and the words are used in the headline has conceptual and associative meaning that set in situational context. Based on the data, We can assume that headline always uses an unusual diction and has an implicit meaning to attract the attention of the reader. To attract the reader, Headline News use an unusual diction (figurative language, make it simple and direct). Then, based on this study, we can assume that from the headline we can know the contet or what the news is talking about.

Thus, the need to master communicative competence of English communication is needed. Beside face to face communication, people are also need to be able to communicate in different way, such as chat via mobile phone. It is used to call as Short Message Service or SMS. This study is aimed to know the kinds of conversation that happened in their short text message for a month. The classification of conversation is according to the Grice (1975) the formulation of Cooperative Principle in which it is classified into Generalized Conversation Implicature and Particularized Conversational Implicature. The method used in this study is Descriptive Qualitative. It is used to interpret the data according to the conversational classification. The result of this study shows that 81. 25 % the conversations are classified into Generalized Conversational Implicature, and 18. 75% conversations are classified into Particularized Conversational Implicature.

According to Daniels (2002) literature circle is an activity in which members meet to discuss and respond to a book that they are all reading. The writer used classroom action research as the research method. The steps of action research consist of planning, acting, observing and evaluating. The research participants took from the eleventh grade students of MAN Indramayu. Based on the learning activities from the first to second cycle, it showed there was an improvement of students extensive reading; it can be seen by the students progress of activity from the first to the second cycle, also the students showed a positive respond to the literature circle. From this research finding, it showed that story Literature Circle could develop the students' extensive reading.

As we know that language and culture being inextricably interwoven, the transference of the linguistic expression is precisely an attempt to integrate elements of one culture into another. Translation, thus, becomes a cross cultural event and the translator has to formulate his translation strategies to translate source culture into target culture. To deal with these cultural problems, translator is supposed to insert cultural filter in the initial stage of understanding and analyzing codification of the source text in the first stance. Here the cultural filter helps translator in obtain various elements of source culture which cannot go as they are in the target culture because of cultural differences.

Besides that, it is the lack of module or material of English especially for mechanical engineering. Because of this problem, English teaching in this class needs the materials or methods which is suitable for those students therefore the student learning experience is more interesting and challenging. This is the main reason why lecturers of vocational colleges especially for mechanical engineering department is expected to always explore more motivative teaching resources, although there are many handbooks or modules include CDs. In order to learn more varied, lecturers can use English material for this department that can be taken or downloaded from Youtube. So that the students can understand and improve their English vocabulary competence related to mechanical terms. This study analyzes the effects of using material taken from Youtube in the mechanical department. Using Class Action Research consist of two cycles with stages of planning, action, observation, and reflection. Both cycles use the application of learning models by Teaching English for ESP assisted by Youtube. The result of research shows that the improvement of problem solving ability in English which is very significant that is 85,21% from 30 studenst get value ≥70 according to required minimum value.

In addition, this can be a prospective paradigm for the purpose of building the innovative teaching and learning process as well as enhancing the studetns' schemata in relation to reading and writing particularly. Therefore, this study is aimed to describe as well as prove whether the notions of literacy is appropriate or not for teaching second or foreign language, on the other hand, it also presents a number of relevant theories and also previous studies which reflect notions of literacy its self. However, there are still handicaps as well as constraints towards the implementation of literacy in terms of non native language teaching, the finding in various studies show the evidences which are related to the function of literacy as supplementary sucject or course in certain schools or colleges. Regarding the study, literacy is considered to be the affective as well as innovative strategy that can function to assist the students in acquiring the second or foreign language. Thus, notions of literacy not only conveys the traditional limits of reading and writing skills but also beyond the skills of text-centric literary interpretation.
