An attempt has been made to analyze the preventive and curative potential of mulberry leaf extract, in focal cerebral ischemia model in rat, as it is rich source of novel chemicals possessing antioxidant and neuroprotective properties. The aqueous extract (MLE-AR-14) pre-treatment one hour prior to ischemia significantly (65%) prevented the ischemic cerebral damage. It also tended to revert the behavioral deficit caused due to brain damage. The biochemical markers of oxidative stress MDA and GSH were also significantly altered towards basal levels. The most important and exciting finding is the effectiveness of MLE-AR-14 administration after six hours post cerebral injury. The extract at a dose of 100 mg/kg p.o. caused reduction in cerebral infarct by 54% indicating its curative potential in cerebral stroke. The oxidative end product MDA was reduced by 42 % and the level of GSH was elev...

Besides, having phytochemicals induced biological pathways and nutritional value. Although a number of mulberry fruits species available in nature, the review elucidates the specific role of Morus alba, Morus nigra, Morus rubra, whose functions in living systems are poorly implicit. Many Pharmacological properties of mulberry fruits which are discovered in the recent past for therapeutic purposes also highlighted. Further, ethnopharmacological relevance, medicinal aspects, and bioavailability of mulberry fruits are discussed in detail.

Till date, no potential medicine/ drug is available to cure the infected persons from SARS-CoV-2. This deadly virus is named as novel 2019-nCoV coronavirus and caused coronavirus disease, that is, COVID-19. The first case of SARS-CoV-2 infection in human was confirmed in the Wuhan city of the China. COVID-19 is an infectious disease and spread from man to man as well as surface to man. In the present work, in silico approach was followed to find potential molecule to control this infection. Authors have screened more than one million molecules available in the ZINC database and taken the best two compounds based on binding energy score. These lead molecules were further studied through docking against the main protease of SARS-CoV-2. Then, molecular dynamics simulations of the main protease with and without screened compounds were performed at room temperature to determine the thermodynamic parameters to understand the inhibition. Further, molecular dynamics simulations at different temperatures were performed to understand the efficiency of the inhibition of the main protease in the presence of the screened compounds. Change in energy for the formation of the complexes between the main protease of novel coronavirus and ZINC20601870 as well ZINC00793735 at room temperature was determined on applying MM-GBSA calculations. Docking and molecular dynamics simulations showed their antiviral potential and may inhibit viral replication experimentally.

Reports pertaining to the viral miRNAs role in modulating/evading the host immune response are surging up; we initiated this in silico study to speculate the role of human cytomegalovirus (HCMV)-encoded miRNAs on human antiviral mechanisms such as apoptosis and autophagy. The results indicate that both the above mechanisms were targeted by the HCMV miRNAs, located in the unique long region of the HCMV genome. The proapoptotic genes MOAP1, PHAP, and ERN1 are identified to be the potential targets for the miR-UL70-3p and UL148D, respectively. The ERN1 gene plays a role in the initiation of Endoplasmic reticulum stress-induced apoptosis as well as autophagosome formation. This study shows that HCMV employs its miRNA repertoire for countering the cellular apoptosis and autophagy, particularly the mitochondrial-dependent intrinsic pathway of apoptosis. In addition, the homology studies reveal no HCMV miRNA bears sequence homology with human miRNAs.

One such phytochemical is 1-deoxyjirinomycin (DNJ), which is based, on an iminosugar. The presence of DNJ has been reported in various parts of the mulberry plants section, such as leaves, latex, and root bark. DNJ is a well-known anti-diabetic agent due to its alpha-glucosidase inhibition activity. Apart from this, DNJ also exhibits anti-obesity, anti-microbial, anti-cancer, and cardioprotective properties. In this review, we have highlighted the presence of DNJ in different vegetative parts of mulberry, the pharmacological action of DNJ, and the mechanism of DNJ in regulating diabetes through a more comprehensive range of biochemical targets is also discussed.

Five mulberry varieties namely, AR-14, TR-10, BR-2, S-1 and S-1635 were selected to feed on CSR2 x CSR4 silkworm race to find out varietal influence on silkworm growth and development. Further, four replications were maintained and 100 silkworm larvae were reared in each replication. Different larval parameters viz. larval duration, larval weight, larval length and larval width were measured at different stages of silkworm. Soon after, harvested the cocoon and same were used to find out cocoon weight, shell weight, shell percentage and other characters like pupal weight and effective rate of rearing were measured. Results showed significant differences among different mulberry varieties on larval growth and cocoon characteristics. The best performance was observed by feeding S-1635 variety in respect of larval durat...

The nutritional parameters of mulberry leaves and silk production are directly proportional to each other. The nutritional composition of mulberry leaves vary depending on the soil and other environmental
