The same scribe's signature is observed in the manuscripts Dečani № 127 and № 119, which are also connected by the typology and a similar dating. The goal is to compare the distinctive features of both manuscripts and the handwriting of the 14th century scribes who contributed to the copying. In conducting this research, we will use a new descriptive scientific model, created and tested by the research project team.

Some early results of this collaboration are presented. They show how the data collected and processed together offer some interesting insights and raise questions for future research.

If for the key monasteries of Hilandar, on Mount Athos, and Visoki Dečani, in Serbia, the evidence collected turns out to be manifold, it is nevertheless interesting to note that some knowledge can be re- constructed in the scriptoria of the monasteries of Studenica in Serbia, and in the kellion of Karyes and the monastery of Saint Panteleimon on Mount Athos. The results of this research, together with further studies, attempt to contribute to a better understanding of the literary and writing situation in the medieval Serbian territory before the Ottoman attacks at the end of the century.

Our hope is to reach and effectively exploit the vast amounts of knowledge about the digitized written heritage by providing means to semantically describe, structure, process, manage, visualize and analyze the data, greatly facilitating the research and study processes.

In collaboration with the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, the Centre for Slavo-Byzantine Studies “Prof. Ivan Dujčev” and the SS. Cyril and Methodius National Library, we offered the participants a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience working in the field of Slavic Palaeography according to its latest analysis methods and study approaches.
The Summer School took place from 22 to 27 July in Sofia, Bulgaria. Our daily activities were hosted by several academic institutions and saw a series of morning lectures related to Slavic historical and cultural context and Slavic palaeography, followed by afternoon workshops focusing on South Slavic handwritings. This introductory section on Slavic palaeography was followed by an advanced section involving the active participation of students through palaeographic research work on several 14th-century South Slavic manuscripts.

The current international landscape features a wealth of projects and research dedicated to the analysis of the Medieval Slavonic world, but so far there have been very few opportunities for scholars in training or in the early stages of their academic career to meet and engage on an international level. The symposium was born not only from the idea of giving greater visibility to the most current research within Slavonic medieval studies, but also of creating a space dedicated to the pooling of knowledge, which seems to be all the more necessary within the current geo-political context.
PhD students, postdoctoral fellows and independent researchers will present their research, outlining the main challenges, the goals and the methodologies applied. The contributions, although restricted to the period of the Slavonic Middle Ages, may concern philological-literary, linguistic, palaeographical, diplomatic and codicological, artistic, cultural-historical studies, as well as be characterised by multi- and pluri-disciplinary approaches. Precisely due to the many possible facets of current studies, proposals from researchers who would like to illustrate both national and international research projects related to the topics presented will also be welcome.
