Research of emergence of a problem of the center and focus, and also problems of their distinction, it is very closely connected with problem of stability of not indignant movement. Therefore relevance of research of the difficult centers and focuses two-dimensional autonomous holomorphic systems it is provided, for example need of research of stability of systems of automatic control, and also need of a solution of the problem of stability for other technical tasks.

New Hull-Voxel Approach to Image Reconstruction from Limited Projections and Views

We discuss the problem of image reconstruction from limited views and sparse projections in order... more We discuss the problem of image reconstruction from limited views and sparse projections in order to achieve a more accurate diagnosis of the patient’s morphology. As a priori assumption, we demand that the object consists of regions with constant attenuation coefficient. Hereby, the number of such regions is not restricted. The Hull-voxel reconstruction concept is a new method based on this a priori information and thereupon makes up for the lack of projections data. In the first reconstruction phase the Bayesian approach is applied, while at the second phase the socalled hull-voxel iteration reconstruction algorithm is developed, which provides the iterative fitting of regions’ surfaces by global optimization technique. The results are evaluated based on simulated Shepp-Logan and experimental medical phantoms respectively.

However, it should be noted that conventional NDT methods are mainly focused on the study of the outer surface of the object or control defects are searching for a depth sufficiently small from the workpiece surface, but can not provide a quantitative control of the internal structure of the complex, branched spatially different shaped parts and foundries products. Conventional tomography offers an effective tool for medical diagnostics, non-destructive testing... more Conventional tomography offers an effective tool for medical diagnostics, non-destructive testing of engineering constructions and checking the quality of industrial products. The tomographic imaging of objects in case of a restricted angle for observation, limited number of projections, and/or restricted x-ray source power becomes strongly ill conditioned. The article deals with the last case, within which the linear attenuation for a partial set of views does not valid any more: thus for them the beam hardening effect introduces substantial uncertainty to reconstruction results. Two kind of approaches are considered: 1) beam hardening effect influence compensation with some kind of linearization procedure in CAD description; 2) introducing 2D and 3D hull deformation algorithms, which are highly effective for tomographic reconstruction of binary object.

Accurate evaluation of dimensions directly from tomographic images, restored from only few x-ray ... more Accurate evaluation of dimensions directly from tomographic images, restored from only few x-ray projections, made in a limited observation sector, is considered exploiting pipes wall thickness assessment like a typical example. Both experiments and simulations are used to extract main errors sources. It is taken from as known, that neglecting of the scattered radiation and beam hardening effects results in image blurring, strong artifacts and finally inaccurate sizing. The computerized technique is developed to simulate the contribution of scattered radiation and beam hardening for the purpose of their further extraction from projected data. After those accompanying effects extraction the iterative Bayesian techniques are applied to reconstruct images from the projections, using volumetric and/or shell representation of the objects like pipes. Experimental investigation of iterative reconstruction techniques for high resolution mammography

ABSTRACT The further development of the new iterative reconstruction algorithms to improve three-... more ABSTRACT The further development of the new iterative reconstruction algorithms to improve three-dimensional breast images quality restored from incomplete and noisy mammograms, is provided. The algebraic reconstruction method with simultaneous iterations - SART and the iterative method of statistical reconstruction (Bayesian Iterative Reconstruction) BIR are referred here as the preferable iterative methods suitable to improve the image quality. For better processing we use the graphics processor (GPU). Method of minimizing the total variation (TV) is used as a priori support for regularization of iteration process and to reduce the level of noise in the reconstructed image. Preliminary results with physical phantoms show that all examined methods are capable to reconstruct structures layer-by-layer and to separate layers which images are overlapped in the Z-direction. It was found that the method of traditional shift-and-add tomosynthesis - SAA is worse than iterative methods SART and BIRin terms of suppression of the anatomical noise and image blurring in between the adjacent layers. Despite of the fact that the measured contrast/noise ratio in the presence of low contrast internal structures is higher for the method of tomosynthesis SAAthan for SARTand BIRmethods, its effectiveness in the presence of structured background is rather poor. In our opinion the optimal results can be achieved using Bayesian iterative reconstruction BIR. .

Accurate assessment of pipe-wall thickness directly from the pipe's tomographic images, rest... more Accurate assessment of pipe-wall thickness directly from the pipe's tomographic images, restored from only a few X-ray tangential projections, made in a limited observation sector, is discussed. Because the effects of scattered radiation and beam hardening contribute up to 50% of the primary radiation, ignoring these effects yields image blurring, strong artifacts, and inaccurate sizing. A computerized technique has been developed that simulates the contribution of the scattered radiation, beam hardening, and screen nonlinearity, which is used to correct the projection data. The iterative Bayesian techniques are then used to reconstruct pipes images from the modified projections, using volumetric and/or hull representation of the pipe. Using these techniques, the error of the pipe-wall-thickness assessment from projection data can be as small as 300 μm. This article shows that standard projection techniques using X- or gamma rays in combination with X-ray film or imaging plates for the data acquisition can be used to reconstruct wall-thickness profiles in an in-field environment.

Objectives: To compare image quality and breast density of two reconstruction methods, the widely... more Objectives: To compare image quality and breast density of two reconstruction methods, the widely-used filtered-back projection (FBP) reconstruction and the iterative heuristic bayesian inference reconstruction (bayesian inference reconstruction plus the method of total variation applied, HBI). Methods: Thirty-two clinical DBT data sets with malignant (n = 27) and benign findings (n = 17) were reconstructed using FBP and HBI. Three experienced radiologists evaluated the images independently using a five-point visual grading scale and classified breast density according to the ACR BI-RADS Atlas fifth edition. Image quality metrics included lesion conspicuity, clarity of lesion borders and spicules, noise level, artifacts surrounding the lesion, visibility of parenchyma and breast density. Results: For masses, HBI-image quality was superior to FBP in terms of conspicuity and clarity of lesion borders and spicules (p < 0.01). HBI and FBP were not significantly different in calcifica...
