My Saxony ducks are some of the most beautiful and useful dual-purpose breeds on the homestead. Here is everything you need to know!

How did this happen? These ducklings were hatched from eggs bought from a Saxony duck breeder. I've been to this farm and there are only Saxony ducks on the property. The only explanation is a throwback to the German Pekin, one of the three breeds used to create the Saxony breed. I've incubated hundreds of Saxony eggs and on occassion there have been ducklings lighter in colour but always with the distinct facial lines and other plumage characteristic of the Saxony. The Saxony duck, 8-9 lbs, is an active forager and excellent layer with typical egg production at about 190-240 large white eggs annually. Flavorful meat. Adapts well to a wide range of environments. Saxony Duck - The Livestock Conservancy

The Saxony has an intriguing history. "In eastern Germany, Albert Franz of Chemitz began developing a new multi-purpose duck in 1930. He used Rouen, German Pekin, and Blue Pomeranian ducks in his breeding program and introduced this new creation at the Saxony Show of 1934."
