Jungle gardens avery island

Spring has sprung! If you're itching to get outside and enjoy the sunshine while the weather is nice and warm, consider venturing out to these colorful gardens.

With my goal of discovering more of Louisiana, we headed to Avery Island in late March to tour the Tabasco Factory and explore the Jungle Gardens. Avery Island is a truly unique site with a decidedly spicy story to tell, since the inland portion of the island actually conceals an enormous salt dome.

This 170-acre botanical garden and bird sanctuary is located on Avery Island, Louisiana. Bird City, which provides roosts for snowy egrets and other species, is the primary attraction of Jungle Gardens. There are many walking paths on the island plus four miles of gravel roads with live oak trees and Spanish moss. Plants such as azaleas, Japanese camellias, hydrangeas, and many other plants can be found in Jungle Gardens which is open daily but not on major holidays.
