Georgia...Home

I love my home state of Georgia!
It's like an old sweet song.
So, it's always fun to create state pride projects, like this one.

My son put together a pallet style board and I stained it with VooDoo Gel Stain in the color Tobacco Road. I love this stain from the Dixie Belle Paint Company because it's water based which makes for easy clean up.

I cut strips of fabric in different colors and patterns...

I applied the fabric to the wood with ModPodge and used a hotel key card to smoothe out the wrinkles...

Then I added a little more of the stain t the edges of the fabric...

I painted a bead board cutout of Georgia with the color, Gravel Road, then added a little whitewash glaze, and glued it to the board using E6000...

I bought a balsa wood Home from Michael's, painted it with the color Mermaid Tail, and glued it to the board...

Georgia
a song of you
comes as sweet and clear
as moonlight through the pines.

Dive In With Dixie Belle

Pools are a must have here in the South where the heat and humidity make is miserable to be outside in the Summer. And, I feel very fortunate to have one!
Plus, it's beautiful to look at even in the Winter,
well, except for the diving board. Over time, it has become discolored and not pleasing to the eye. Even with pressure washing, it never gets back to its original bright white.
So, I did what I do with everything that needs a little sprucing up...
I painted it with Dixie Belle Paint!
I started with a base coat of the color Sea Glass...
I randomly taped off sections and filled them in with the colors, The Gulf, Tree Frog Green, Bunker Hill Blue, & Fluff.
What a difference!!!

A coat of Dixie Belle's water repellent sealer, Gator Hide, and my diving board makeover should be good for years to come.

Reunited With Re*design

It's yard sale season! Here in the South you can find a yard sale almost any weekend year 'round, but Spring & Summer are jam packed with them.
I recently picked this chair up at a yard sale given by a woman who owns an antique store. The veneer on the back was missing, but I didn't mind because I was planning to paint it anyway.
While I was paying, another woman who is a vendor at the antique store that the other lady owns, told me that she had the same chair at her house and she'd be happy to sell it at the same price. I said, "sold" so she ran home and  got it. It had some of the veneer on the back, but it was in bad shape!

I removed all the veneer...
I painted each chair with the color Vintage Duck Egg from the Dixie Belle Paint Company and glazed them with the color Van Dyke Brown. I recovered each seat with fabric that I had in my attic.
I was excited to try out the Re*Design With Prima image transfers on my freshly painted chairs.

This set of transfers included 8 designs. I took this one and cut the flower into two parts and also cut the words into two sections.
The transfers are so easy to use... just place the design onto the painted surface and rub with an applicator provided with the transfer.
Doing this made the chairs match but not be exactly the same.

Reunited and it feels so good!

The Church That The Storm Created

Every now and then a tropical storm will roll through Georgia. Though not as powerful as a hurricane, they can still leave behind a lot of damage. We were without power for 4 days after the last tropical storm passed through. There were a lot of trees and branches down that left behind a big mess. I was given 2 sections of a privacy fence after it was knocked down during the storm so I created a piece of art.

I sketched  the outline of a church with chalk...

I painted the church using the color Fluff from Dixie Belle. I wanted the painting to be rustic so I dry brushed it rather than painting it solid.

I dry brushed the color, Vintage Duck Egg, for the sky...
I painted a little window in the top of the church...

To create a door, I used  a rectangular piece of balsa wood. I cut the top off of an oval piece of balsa wood to fit on the top of the rectangular piece.

I used a miter box to cut pieces of balsa wood to create the roof.

I stained all the wood with VooDoo Gel Stain. It is water based so the clean up is easy!

Finally, I glued all the wood piece on using E6000.

From an ugly storm, rose the church!

Pumpkin On The Rust & Rust On The Pumpkin

Well, it's officially Fall, so it's time to start posting pumpkin projects. Doesn't it seem like just yesterday it was Fall 2016? It certainly doesn't feel like Fall here in Georgia. We've been having temperatures in the 90's! I hear cooler weather is coming  this week...cooler as in 80!

When I found this rust covered piece of metal, I knew just what I was going to do, even though the heat makes you think of the pool more than pumpkins!

I sketched out 3 pumpkins and started filling them in with white acrylic paint...
I used black & brown acrylics to add the detail...

The orange rust color was the perfect backdrop for white pumpkins!
Luckily, I finished the pumpkin painting just a few minutes before Irma came through as a tropical storm and knocked our power out for 3 days!

For another rusty pumpkin project...
I took this little jelly jar & painted it with the color Florida Orange from the Dixie Belle Paint Company, & glazed it with Van Dyke Brown glaze. I used Dixie Belle's Patina Collection to rust the lid, then cut a wine cork in half to use as a stem.
Then I gouged his eyes out! That sounds awful but it's kind of what happened. I used a sharp pencil and scraped the paint away to form the eyes & mouth.
So, which is your favorite...
pumpkins on rust, or rust on the pumpkin?
