There was a striking iridescent beetle carapace headress in Thierry Mugler's Haute Couture Spring ’97 exoskeletal insect-inspired collection. Before the butterfly finale, all manner of winged and hard-shelled creatures made appearances. Mugler’s chitin carapace-like constructions added a touch of Kafka’s 'Metamorphosis' to his collection and this was later referenced by Nicola Formichetti and Sébastien Peigné in their Autumn 2012 show for the 'House of Mugler'.

This is Luly Yang's trademark dress, a monarch butterfly translated to silk, & also the first dress she designed 10 years ago, as a contest entry. It brought about a change in career from graphic designer to couture designer with an international following.

Many have used the butterflies as a design inspiration , but few have so clearly created a true representation of the awe-inspiring beauty the butterfly as designer Luly Yang
