Lucy Lou...turns one!

Hello Friends!
I just wanted to pop in and say "hi" in the middle of our crazy birthday week!  We have three birthdays in a row... hubs' was on the 2nd, Lucy turned one on the 3rd, and Elsie turns seven today! There's a lot of partying going on here...let me tell you! But yesterday I managed to take a few shots of my sweet Lucy Lou to commemorate her first birthday...  bittersweet emotions going on in this mama's heart, for sure :)

Loucille Louise.... my spirited and precious baby #5:

 Blessings,

A Woodland Party over at Raising Up Rubies... and Lucy Lou is 11 months old!

Hey Y'all! Do you notice it looks a bit different around here?!  I had the amazing Heather from Life Made Lovely perk up my blog...  She was so amazing.  She was so gracious to work with me and use my illustrations to come up with the perfect look that just screams "AMY J!"  love. it.

Okay, and you MUST hop on over to my best girl Jaime's blog, where I'm guest posting about a really fun Woodland Party idea (and there are some free printables, by the way...wink, wink).

And now, Miss Lucy... my sweet baby girl... These baby days are slipping away. boo.  But I managed to capture a few pieces of my heart  in digital form to share with you... and tear up over for years to come. ha, ha :)

Blessings,

My big girl... and my baby girl....

When did this happen?
When did I become the mamma of a 9 year old?  I don't think I'm old enough to have a "tween"!
eek.
And when did my newborn baby become a loud slobbering rolly thing with teeth?
dunno.
But it's happening.  My babies are growing up.  And this will be my anthem... for many years to come, I'm sure:  "When did this happen?!"

So bittersweet.
So surreal.
So blessed.

As the days pass,
this is my comfort...
This is my encouragement:

"She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.  She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.  She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.  Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: 'Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.' Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised."

Proverbs 31:25-30

Lucille Louise is 3 months old

Our little Lucy is 3 months old.  This milestone is bittersweet for me.  One part of me feels victorious:  it's been a very difficult start.... the colic, the chaos, Virgil's determination to keep my attention...  But we've made it through the roughest part!  The colic is pretty much gone... now she's just a normal needy baby :)  And I'm adjusting (still in present tense...I have not adjusted!) to having 5 kids.

But on the flip side...  those newborn days are gone.  And I will never experience those incredible moments again, as Lucy is definitely our last baby.  But my cup is full... and the tiredness that never seems to leave, numbs the pain of saying goodbye to the baby days.

So here she is... in all her precious baby glory at 3 months...

Little Lucille is 2 months old!

Even though it has been kind of a difficult past 2 months, it has gone rather quickly.  And I have survived!

My window of opportunity is always rather narrow when it comes to taking pics of Lucy while she's awake... so even though these are anything super creative or amazing, they are my girl!

The Battle with V Continues! ... and some pics of all 5 kiddos...

So you know how I told  you about my struggles with Virgil a few months back?  ... You know the whole poo on the walls, pink footie p.j.s, and opening doors saga...  Well, for a while it seemed to be getting better!  We purchased those child-proof door knob covers, continued to pin him into his p.j.s, and locked the doors that led outside.

Then Lucy was born... And V upped the ante.  Poor little guy, I'm sure it's hard having a tiny little person come in and take over the house... and mommy's arms... But seriously, it's like he decided he was going to go to war against all of us!  Don't get me wrong... he wasn't mean or angry... just incredibly mischievous!  He was into everything...  and he figured out how to pop off the door knob covers.  So now nothing was off limits for him.  V took full advantage of the fact that he could now get out of his room again in the mornings.  He began waking up at 6  or 6:30 instead of 7:30 or 8... and quietly sneaking out of his room.  One morning we heard a strange noise in the kitchen that woke us up... it was Virgil, sitting on the top shelf in the pantry, eating candy.  oh. boy.

The other thing that V figured out was how to undo the dead bolt on the front door.  He would put one foot in the window sill beside the door, hold onto the door knob with one hand, and swing his other arm up to barely reach the dead bolt and flip it over.  He mastered this technique and could open the door as quickly as I could!  ...such a little monkey.

(During this time he also started trying to pick up Lucy,  share his candy with her, feed her random small items like rocks, and crawl into her crib with her... but that's a whole 'nother  post!)

But opening the front door was the real problem...this was the kicker.  V now could escape into the front yard... very easily and quickly.  He had it down to a science. As soon as I would leave the room he would grab his keys (Jeremy's spare car keys..that he's allowed to play with), get the door open, and dart out.  He would run into the street and try to unlock Jeremy's parked pick-up truck.  You see he's fairly obsessed with vehicles and keys...  and I think he thought that if he could just get that car door open, he would be able to use those keys to drive away!

It scared me to death.  I usually would hear the screen door squeak and run and stop him before he got very far, but every now and then I would miss it.  Then I would realize that I hadn't seen V in a few minutes, look out the front window and see him running down the side walk or in the street.  It was awful.

This went on for a couple weeks, then one morning I looked out the window to see him in the neighbor's driveway across the street trying to get into the their Mustang!  I'll never forget that image... him standing there with his keys, in his footie p.j.s, wearing his sister's pink cowboy hat trying to unlock the car door.  oh. my.

The next day Jeremy went to Lowes...

He bought extra latches for the front and back doors that could be placed really high up.
Child running loose in the street problem. check.

I feel like I can breath a bit now!  Until that curly headed, big blue eyed son of mine comes up with some new ways to make me panic :)

Oh, I just remember what happening on Monday... in Kansas, at my folks' house... (chuckling.)
Let's just say it involved eggs, antique doll dishes, house plants, and quite a bit of crying :)
But that too, is a whole 'nother story for another day!

Blessings,

Playing house with my Baby Doll

The sun is shining today...  and that really helps this hormonal mamma face the day :)
It also allows me to take pictures!

I felt like a little girl playing with her doll as I wrapped Lucy in a doll blanket and put her in a tiny toy cradle in the girls' room.  She fit perfectly and looked so sweet.  I even ended up rocking her a bit in it to keep her asleep.  So fun.

It all reminded me of something my Dad told me when he and my mom were here for Lucy's birth.  He said he would never forget a conversation he had with me as a young teenager...  During a daddy-daughter conversation, he had asked me what I wanted to "do."  He was referring to college plans, career interests, etc...  I simply told him that I wanted to be a wife and a mom.

That's all I've ever really wanted...
To love my husband, to love my babies, to create a home that honors Christ and allows all who enter into it to feel his love.
....for me there is no greater joy.

Blessings,
