Katherine Truby
SUNY: University at Albany, Institute for Teaching, Learning and Academic Leadership, Future Faculty Fellow
Katherine is a doctoral candidate in the Political Science department of the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy and the Future Faculty Fellow at the Institute for Teaching, Learning and Academic Leadership (ITLAL) at the University at Albany, SUNY.
Katherine's dissertation research emphasizes the links between states and societies through an analysis of how governments and civil society organizations interact in the development of public policies in Mexico. By focusing on HIV/AIDS, Katherine adds to the literatures of both policy processes and democratization/citizen participation.
In addition to Katherine's dissertation research, she has presented papers at professional conferences on the securitization of global health; comparative analyses of HIV/AIDS policy in the U.S.; and a study of community health interventions at Mexico's two borders. She has several articles currently under review analyzing crossborder health policy and medical tourism in the EU and in the U.S, including one publication: "Traveling for Treatment." Katherine also has a solo authored article in preparation for submission to a journal in October 2013.
In addition to her research, Katherine is engaged both in the scholarship of teaching and in discipline-wide discourse about important pedagogical issues. She is a regular contributor to the Internationalizing the Curriculum Track at APSA's Teaching and Learning Conference, and has two publications (one forthcoming 2014) on teaching political science at the university level.
