This may look like a jewelry box, though it is for stationery.↓
I have a favorite. Since you are visiting me today, you are sitting in it. What?! Yes, I consider this little blog my treasure box filled with all the people and things I love best. Many of my favorite scriptures and quotes are contained here. It also holds many of the lessons I have learned and thinks I have thinked. ☺ It might even contain a rant or two. Most of all, it contains the precious memories that I might forget without it.

Boxes can hold so many memories. I currently am attempting to get rid of so much of the clutter. I do keep my blog but I have been very slow about writing in it these days.

ReplyDeleteI keep a blog and you are right, it is a memory. So many times I refer to it to remember just what happened when. I have tried in the past to keep journals and was never able to. But I can keep a blog. And it's me. Thank you for keeping up your blog. I'm glad I am getting to know you.
I do have a few of those boxes on my closet shelf packed with cards and letters from the past. I also have many diaries that my mom kept. I don't journal or keep diaries. Oh wait, yes I do... in blog form. I like how you have given it the name of a treasure box. It must have been a bittersweet moment to look through John's box. I'm impressed that he kept them all together. I think when Brett wants to keep something he's unsure what to do with it so it ends up in his sock drawer. All kinds of "treasures" in there :).

ReplyDeleteI don't have any treasure boxes! Yes, you know I keep a blog, my original blog, www.lavenderhillstudio.blogspot.com is still there, though I don't publish on it anymore. But it is a history of most of my mosaic pieces.

ReplyDeleteOn a practical, non-sentimental note, containers are great for organizing and hiding stuff that wouldn't look so great sitting in piles here and there.

DeleteOh Vee...I love this post. Jim and I both have some special boxes similar to yours that hold momentos and various sentimental items. Every now and then I will open one up and refresh my memory as to what all is in them. I have several journals that I have written down thoughts and prayers, etc., throughout the years but wouldn't want one soul to see what's inside some of them except me and God. I really am kind of embarrassed for even God to see some of them but hey, we both know that's not possible...He understands though, right? I keep them well hidden...I hope :) And then, as you know, I use my blog now to do most of my musings. I love how you consider your blog as your treasure box. You may have just convinced me that blog is mine as well :) Hugs!♥♥♥

I sometimes write in a scrapbook journal, but mostly I write at my blog, and I am thankful I do. I believe I am leaving a family record for my kids of who I was, what we did during these years and how I loved them!

I also still keep a bit of a journal to write down the more personal memories.

ReplyDeleteTreasure boxes are wonderful secret places for special things, and they take many forms. I love lidded boxes, especially those made of wood. And yes, I have "a few." Vee, this is one of my favorite posts of yours. Believe me there are many others. We have many treasure boxes in our home. Sometimes I wonder about this, but when I open a box full of my Mama's puzzle books that she used as a journal, my heart know why. I do keep a daily journal and a garden journal. Some of the thoughts in those journals need to be burned by a trusted one someday. ♥
ReplyDeleteHi Vee, I love this post and I have enjoyed reading the comments, also. Oh, to find the box your John kept with saved cards, photos etc. must have made you catch your breath. It was sweet to remember you could still faintly smell your mom's candy in the one box, too. I have a few special boxes....one contains mama and daddy's Bibles (which are rather fragile), I have an old Emeraude powder box and the scent brings back memories of mama. My John has many wooden or cigar boxes filled with little bits of the past. Like I said, this post of yours is a favorite! Have a nice evening.

ReplyDeleteI am sentimental and have various boxes for different treasures. The Gardener keeps notes that are very special to him. I have not been sorry for things that I have saved, and in recent months have been so happy to find things that I can share with other family members, especially as the "passing down" stage is soon upon us. Your boxes are delightful.

ReplyDeleteWe find treasure boxes everywhere if we look :) I love the one holding your dominoes. The rest are all sweet because of what they hold or once held. Little things mean so much. My journal is my blog. I always had a hard sticking with the discipline of actually writing on paper, but using photos and typing seems to work for me. Now that I have 9 years of blog journaling behind me it is so nice to look back at the posts and memories! And yes, some of the people who have interacted with me the entire 9 years. Special friends and treasures.

Unfortunately, even old cookie boxes from Sams Club look like treasure boxes to me. I know, it's pretty sad. But there are some legitimate ones. This was such a fun blog post, Vee. Okay, and now about the blog. Yes, I have a blog, which has been ill attended since June 6, but which I hope will recapture the wind in its sails pretty soon. It's getting easier for me to sit to blog, but then again it's hard to walk if I've sat too long. Back to more exercises. They're all helping.

I have been very lax with my wee blog that started out so strong and was a way for me to journal and to stay in touch with my daughter who lived so far away at that time. I struggle to write at times but cannot deny how good it is to look back and "remember" what has been.

As for writing, I write down things about my grands and give them a letter from me on their birthday every year of different happenings in their life for that particular year. It's one way for me to connect with them and I hope maybe someday, they'll put them in a treasure box. Maybe I should buy them one?

The first box is beautiful. I love all the detail on it. I mainly have treasure drawers :) My MIL kept a diary until dementia began. One of them will be sitting in front of her photo boards at her memorial celebration this weekend.

I keep a daily diary of sorts in an agenda book, mostly of events, weather and the like but no personal feelings written down. I do have some old journals that I kept though. My writing (pen holding) skills are gone so the computer is much easier for me. I wish I could record things on it but haven't figured out how to do that yet. I have a small wood box that was my grandmother's which contained old photos, papers etc. which are treasures to me. Fun discoveries. Lovely post Vee. I wish you a wonderful weekend.

I've journaled for many years, off and on, here and there. It's quite something to go back and read old entries to discover how much I've changed or not changed.

ReplyDeleteOh, I have so many little treasure boxes that I can't even find some of them...and my Family Bible has to be emptied every yr or so as there's so many card from kids and grands, newspaper clippings and such...Yes, and I use my blog as a journal for mostly happy things...my unhappies go into a small journal that my daughter gave to my mama ....*don't tell anyone that when I get sad..or missing Mama, I write to her in her journal. Now, I'm sad...

I love storing things in boxes too - you have good collection going there. It's a warming feeling have little things tucked away to treasure - lovely that John enjoyed doing that, and that you have come across little surprises. Bob saves everything - but is very neat and methodical - he still should start some downsizing soon though, things are getting a bit out of hand!
I no longer journal since I consider my blog my online journal. I love to go back and re-read about my travels, also posts I've done of my childhood in England etc. I do write little notes to myself when 'on the road' to jog my memory when posting - and always have stories racing about in my mind and wishing I had more time to share!

I love to journal even write on my daily calendar of the happenings that took place for that day. I started keeping a journal for just my blogging friends writing down important dates and such. You think you will remember things, but not always the case. :)
