Moreover, we propose a system that adapts to users' preferences using profile separation, not only for individual users but also for user groups as a whole. The system takes advantage of explicit and implicit information through the users' interaction with the IPTV environment, while the profile reflects groups of similar users, thus dropping the time needed for matching user patterns and profiles when forming a recommendation. The system works in conjunction with a simulation platform acting as an interaction interface between the IPTV architecture and the prospective viewer. Based on that, interactivity in IPTV is faced through metadata and adaptation.

The approach includes the development of an authoring tool for a diversity of multimedia resources supporting a metadata model according to MPEG-21. The authoring tool works in conjunction with a simulation platform, acting as an interaction interface between our internet TV architecture and the prospective viewer. Based on that, interactivity in IP Television accessibility services is faced through metadata and adaptation.

These suites of test cases demonstrate pass and failure examples for WCAG 2.0 and its accompanying Techniques document. The test cases were validated during the BenToWeb project and are currently being migrated to the WAI Test Sample Development Task Force, where the work will be continued.

This paper addresses the development of a description language targeted to formally represent test case metadata. This language was used to develop a WCAG 2.0 test suite that will support the benchmarking of ERT with regard to the aforementioned W3C recommendation.

A whole/parts perspective is adopted that considers portal systems as a whole and the portlets as parts that need to have some attributes, behaviours and organisation for accomplishing their purpose. A comparison between a portal system and a web site in terms of accessibility is given for identifying the additional requirements of a portal system. According to these, complementary specifications and guidelines are proposed at the design as well as at the implementation level, and suggestions are made for some types of automatic accessibility checking for portals.

Besides functional issues is the design of each web page affecting the ability to navigate and interact with web applications. Web designers are only slowly becoming aware of accessibility issues, more tools, better processes in creating high quality websites and a better understanding of guidelines is needed.

Two tools are presented which support test case management for accessibility test suites. Creating test suites for the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 is one major objective of the EU-funded project BenToWeb 1. Parsifal is a desktop application which easily allows editing test description files. Test description files compose an XML layer containing descriptive information about the particular test cases. Amfortas is a web application which allows controlled evaluation of the test suites by users. Controlled in that ...

This paper will discuss basic design considerations inspired by systems theory fundamental principles, where the portal as a whole and its components (known as portlets) are ...

More specifically, the paper: 1) rethinks Web Accessibility Evaluation notion and its abstract requirements, 2) investigates the usability of W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 1.0 and WCAG 2.0), and 3) proposes an approach for an evaluation of the usability of accessibility guidelines.

This is a presentation of work undertaken in the context of a research project aiming at delivering iTV services to disabled children. The project approaches this objective through the utilization of the upcoming MPEG-21 ISO standard. Based on that, iTV accessibility is faced through metadata and adaptation. This work approaches the accessibility of iTV in a wider manner contrary to previous studies that focus mostly onto the users with low vision. Such a case study is being presented accompanied with a discussion of relevant architectures, technologies and faced design issues.

The common gateway to e-University is a web portal, the U-portal. This paper discusses the design and implementation of the U-portal infrastructure that is intended to be the central hub of the Greek Universities for students, academic staff and public. The design and implementation approach of the U-Portal were based on investigation of the current state of the web portal technology on both national and international level, through literature research and surveys on institutional level. An architecture based on open source technologies has been adopted and developed.
