Trick Chests are Treasure Chests that wait for adventurers to approach before extorting them for Rupees in exchange for their contents.[3] If Tingle attempts to open a Trick Chest, it will force him into a Negotiation, forcing Tingle to guess the necessary amount of Rupees to open it. Offering a number lower than the minimum will cause Tingle to lose those Rupees in the Negotiation.[4] Trick Chests will not allow Tingle to leave a Negotiation unless he offers the appropriate amount or his Rupee count falls to one.[5][6][7] It is possible to enter a Negotiation without the requisite amount of Rupees, trapping him into losing nearly all of his Rupee-based Life Gauge. However, if Tingle speaks to a Trick Chest while down to his last Rupee, it will refuse to speak to him.[8] By offering the necessary amount of Rupees to Trick Chests, they will happily open and yield their contents to Tingle.[9]
A Trick Chest appears in the Underground Level 2 of Hero's Shrine. By paying 50 Rupees, Tingle can convince it to open up, giving him 200 Rupees in return.
