Scorching Climate
Scorching Climates are a recurring mechanic in The Legend of Zelda series.[1][2] Scorching Climates go unnamed in Ocarina of Time.
Overview
Ocarina of Time
In Ocarina of Time, the Death Mountain Crater, Fire Temple, and Fire Room are all located within or contain a Scorching Climate. When Link is in a Scorching Climate, a countdown timer will appear. The amount of time Link has is eight seconds for every Heart in his Life Gauge. If this timer expires, Link will instantly die, although he is able to be saved if he has a Fairy. Wearing the Goron Tunic allows Link to traverse Scorching Climates without taking damage.
Breath of the Wild
In Breath of the Wild, a Scorching Climate appears in the Eldin Canyon surrounding Death Mountain. It is the result of Divine Beast Vah Rudania's rampage, which has worsened the eruptions from Death Mountain.[3] When in a Scorching Climate, Link will catch on Fire and begin to take damage.[1] However, this can be avoided by wearing a piece of Fireproof Armor or drinking a Fireproof Elixir, which grant the Flame Guard Added Effect. While in a Scorching Climate, Link will make a pained expression. Additionally, Arrows drawn in a Scorching Climate will ignite and deal Fire damage when shot at flammable Objects or Enemies. If Link attempts to fire a Bomb Arrow in a Scorching Climate, it will immediately explode.
Several of the Death Mountain Markers along the Mountain Road track the intensity of Death Mountain's Scorching Climate. The Scorching Climate begins near Medingo Pool, only requiring one level of Flame Guard to traverse.[4] At the Abandoned North Mine and past the Bridge of Eldin, the Scorching Climate intensifies, requiring two levels of Flame Guard for protection.[5][6]
In a Scorching Climate, Roasted Food can be created by dropping their corresponding Materials onto the ground.[7] Weapons, Bows, and Shields that are made of wood will also burn when exposed to a Scorching Climate, eventually disintegrating into ash.[8]
Tears of the Kingdom
In Tears of the Kingdom, Eldin Canyon has cooled down with the dormancy of Death Mountain and no longer has a Scorching Climate. However, the Caves underneath the Region still contain Scorching Climates, and require either a piece of Flame-Resistant Equipment or Fireproof Elixirs to navigate safely.
Additionally, parts of the Depths contain Scorching Climates too, such as the Death Mountain Depths and the Lava-filled areas underneath the Hot Springs in Hebra. Some places in the Eldin Depths require two levels of Flame Guard. Dinraal has a Scorching Climate that requires two levels of Flame Guard around her.
If Link brings out a Bomb Flower, it will explode the moment Link either drops it or throws it, and when fusing to an arrow. However the premature explosion when fusing a bomb flower to an arrow in a scorching environment can be prevented by using Sidon's Power of Water.
Echoes of Wisdom
Scorching Climates can be found in both the Eldin Volcano and Gerudo Desert.
Trivia
- In Ocarina of Time, there is a glitch that causes the timer in Scorching Climates to not work at all if Link is at the lowest amount of health possible, which is one sixteenth of a Heart (the life gauge will display the amount rounded upwards to quarter of a heart).[9]
