Descriptions

There's this amazing treasure inside that freezing ring of ice over there.

But even if you wanted it and tried to get inside, you'd just be frozen solid as soon as you approached the shore.

But...if you go four squares north and three squares west, you'll find the power to melt any ice—no matter how cold! Search for it, small fry!

There is an Ice Ring over there. Me, I don't like it too hot or too cold.

Oooh... Brrr... I get chills just thinking about it.

The island is, at first, so cold that no one can enter without freezing. The Fire Arrows are needed to unfreeze the Freezard-shaped facade upon the island in order to set foot on its cold surfaces without freezing. After warming the ice upon the facade, Link will have five minutes to complete the island's challenge before the island freezes over again. If Link is still on the island when the time elapses, he will instantly be frozen and re-spawn back on the King of Red Lions, having to use another Fire Arrow to try again. After jumping from Iceberg to Iceberg, and skittering across a narrow strip of ice, Link will drop into a cave within the rocky facade of the isle. Link must then transverse two slippery slides while avoiding (or beating) Keese before achieving the isle's prize, the Iron Boots. Should Link fall below into the water, he will have to climb his way back up to the slides and try again, wasting some time to complete the challenge.

Upon receiving the Iron Boots, the five-minute timer will immediately stop, and Link can forever safely traverse the Ice Ring Isle at his leisure.

Within the main cavern and after getting the Iron Boots, a small cavern located behind a strong gust of wind can be accessed after Link acquires the Iron Boots. Upon dropping in, he will find a cryogenic cavern filled with enemies and Rupees. Interestingly, when Link exits, he is brought back to the isle's entrance, not the cavern's entrance, seemingly avoid being blown away by the strong wind gust.

Link can also obtain a Treasure Chart by shooting the treasure chest outside covered in ice with a Fire Arrow. This will allow him to retrieve Treasure Chart #36.

Minor Enemies

Trivia

  • This Mini-Dungeon is similar to and may have been inspired by the Ice Cavern from Ocarina of Time, as both are accessed by jumping across Ice floes, both center around ice, and both hold the Iron Boots. They both also have an easier way to get back to the entrance with the Iron Boots.
  • This is one of the Islands where the Fishman tells Link to travel to the Mother and Child Isles to receive the power to use Fire and Ice Arrows. Fittingly, the Fire Mountain is the other Island where this happens.
