The thesis titled "The Formation of Female Identity of Sevgi Soysal's Works", is an interdiscipli... more The thesis titled "The Formation of Female Identity of Sevgi Soysal's Works", is an interdisciplinary study investigating the identity construction of female characters in Sevgi Soysal's five works. Soysal's works put female characters in the center of the work are texts that focus on issues and problems related to women. The conflicts of the female characters in her works with the power mechanisms, their denial of social and cultural values; makes it necessary to look at the texts on the pivotal of the concept of identity. For this reason, while examining the female identity in the works, women's studies, gender and identity studies were used. In this direction, it was also investigated whether it is possible to talk about a collective female identity in Soysal's works. In the introduction chapter of the thesis, information is given about the works of Sevgi Soysal and the theoretical background of the study. In the first chapter of the thesis, it was examined how the social environment the female characters in the works lived was constructed. It has been determined that the patriarchal society structure is dominant in the social life in the works and the identity problems of the female characters in the patriarchal society have been analyzed. In the second chapter, the attitudes of the female characters towards the oppression mechanisms of the patriarchal society were examined. It has been determined that the attitudes and behaviors of the women in the works are similar and the effects of this situation on their identity construction have been revealed. In the conclusion part of the thesis, the results about the identity construction of the female characters in the analyzed works are included. In the works, female characters who have similar vii living conditions and have similar experiences are fictionalized; it has been revealed that women's identities are constructed in a similar way.
