- Motivation
Could perhaps be used as a qualifier too, for software version identifier (P348). ~★ nmaia d 23:26, 8 October 2017 (UTC)
- Discussion
- Oppose I don't think this is a good idea or necessary for several reasons: (A) formatter URL for identifiers, official website, etc. essentially provide this functionality now - there are many ways to associate a URL with an item already. (B) what does "download" mean? For software, there are downloads for source code, binaries for every platform and version, documentation, etc. For other items, like datasets, I think much more context is needed. (C) For software, scientific articles, and many other things, the same item may be downloadable from many different places. Do we really want to list all of them (or some selection based on what criteria?) in wikidata? Maybe a narrower property would be helpful but I think we have enough ways to get to a downloadable item already in wikidata. ArthurPSmith (talk) 17:26, 9 October 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose per Arthur. I also believe there's a large potential for abuse with respect to items that are not immediately legally downloadable (many songs, movies, books, and non-open-access articles) and items which are already spam targets (imagine download links for famous people!). - Oppose per Arthur, we already have full work available at URL (P953) − Pintoch (talk) 08:08, 25 October 2017 (UTC)
