Any building work can run the risk of going wrong and when attempting to build a glamping space out of a ship's wheelhouse, it can be even trickier. Angharad and Gareth, who run a glamping site in west Wales, found this out while appearing on George Clarke's Amazing Spaces on Channel 4.
Buying the wheelhouse for £1,500 the couple had high hopes to turn it into a glamping home for a family. The wheelhouse did not arrive in great condition, however, and when looking inside Angharad said: "Oh dear" and host of the show George Clarke, added: "You've definitely got your work cut out!"
The budget was set to be less than £10,000 and they quickly realised they needed to add an extension to fit four people. The build did not go to plan and took much longer than expected, as they wanted to have the new glamping pod ready for the summer season, giving them an eight-week deadline. However, bad weather, which meant they couldn't work on the build, caused it to sink and show some worrying leaks, creating significant delays. Facing the delays, Gareth said: "We are just accepting that we've sort of let the deadline go out the window and when it's finished, it's finished."
Thankfully, they were able to finish the renovation and to a very high standard all while within their budget. Impressed with the glamping pod, which successfully has room for four people, George said: "It looks fantastic! I think it looks brilliant... captains Gareth and Angharad have successfully steered their rustic boat into harbour and created the most fantastic space."
