My Flaky Friend - Holiday Card
Does everyone have a Flaky Friend?!
I am truly blessed to have my Flaky Friend! So I made her a card for the Holiday Season!
Though she may be a bit flaky - she definitely keeps my life interesting… very interesting!!
She has a heart of gold and she is just so absolutely sweet, yet still has those flakey moments… many flaky moments… and she is going to laugh when she reads this…
Flakey or not, she is my cherished friend and I would not change her flakiness for anything - it brings so much joy and laughter to our friendship.
In fact… if you don’t have a flakey friend, I think you are definitely missing out on something.
The gut splitting laughter or perhaps the almost peeing your pants moments when she says or does something that completely astounds you so badly that you just can’t stop laughing - is something I just couldn’t live without!
So I designed this card just for her.
I knew she would appreciate the adorable little snowman, the quickly stenciled background, falling snowflakes, the glitter - all create such a pretty winter scene.
I also knew she would giggle about the custom greeting created just for her, and that she would realize just how much I love her when she receives this card.
As amazing as I think my flaky friend is - I didn’t use anything astounding to create this card. In fact, I was just hanging out at my desk wasting time while my grand daughter was creating a masterpiece at her desk.
I had some time, so I thought “hey I’m going to check out a stencil that I got awhile back and see how it turns out”. So that was it - I was really just playing with this stencil to get an idea of options to use it for. I wasn’t actually trying to create a card.
The stencil Winter Wonderland has a few different elements on it and is a treasure from Whimsy Stamps. There are the trees, the icicles, snow or water patches, bears I think… and a few other fun winter cut outs to create scenes.
I only used parts of it, as I was simply playing and thought I would quickly create a winter scene background.
Once I had ink blended the scene, I love it and thought “this has to be made into something”.
I decided the background scene would need some falling snow, so I added a splatter of white - Mission accomplished.
It needed a focal image!
Nearby on my desk, I had a stamp set from Art Impressions - Christmas Truck that was a favorite from last year, that happened to have a snowman calling to me. This is a great bundle that features stamps and dies to create a Christmas Truck scene - tons of fun!
I quickly stamped and colored the snowman, using purple as the feature color to blend with the purple tones I had used in the background scene.
Also from last year’s stash were some tiny snowflake tag dies from Trinity Stamps - Snowflake Trio (I think they were a freebie).
I cut all three out and ignored the tiny holes that were in them to attach to tags. I wanted snowflakes and these were the smallest that I had in my stash - so onto the card front they went.
To make the card extra special and wintery - I added a nice layer of Wink of Stella (glitter pen) to the icicles, the snow below the snowman and onto the snowflakes. Unfortunately the camera doesn’t pick up this beautiful sparkling effect.
I backed this card onto a cardstock layer that was a shade of purple to coordinate with my ink blending, added a few rhinestones, and was left with the posing question - “what will I use for a greeting”?
Punny cards are amongst my most favorite cards to make, and given that I had already decided this card would be perfect for my flaky friend - the greeting was inspired. I simply typed out the text I wanted to use, chose a font, and printed it. Cut it out, attached it and it was perfect!
I’ll write something flaky on the inside and it will be ready to hand deliver ( mail strike still ongoing ).
