INTRODUCTION OF GPS
GPS is a navigation and precisepositioning tool. Orbiting navigational satellites. Transmit position and time data. Developed by DoD in 1973. GPS uses for location, navigation, tracking, Mapping and timing.
GPS SEGMENTS
GPS systems are made up of 3 segments
1 - Space Segment
- contains 30 GPS satellites - orbiting at an altitude of approximately 20,200 kilometers - each satellite makes two complete orbits in 12 hours( twice a day) - orbits are designed so that at the very least, six satellites are always within line of sight from any location on the planet

2 - Control Segment
3 - User Segment
-The user's GPS receiver is the user segment of the GPS system -They can also include a display for showing location and speed information to the user.
What is happening?
GPS satellite circle the earth twice a day in a very precise orbit and transmit signal information to earth.GPS receivers take this information and use triangulation to calculate the users exact location. Essentially , the GPS receivers compares the time a signal was transmitted by satellite with the time it was received. The time difference tell the GPS receiver how far away the satellite is. Now with distance measurement from a few more satellites, the receiver can determine the users position and display it on the units electronic map.
APPLICATIONS OF GPS
TRANSPORTATION
IT USES AIR,WATER ,SURFACE TRANSPORTATION. TO FIND ROUTES. IT ENABLES FIND EASY ROUTES. TO FIND EXACT LOCATION
VEHICLES
TO TRACKING FIND ROUTE FIND LOCATION
MILITARY
IN THE TIME OF WAR TO ATTACK ENEMIES TO FIND BOARDERS
AGRICULTURE
SPRAYING PESTICIDE
TOURISM
TO FIND LOCATION FOR TREKKING FOR MOUNTAIN BIKERS
WILDLIFE
TO FIND WILDLIFE AND FOREST AREA TO COUNTING WILD ANIMALS
OTHER USES
SURVEYING MAPPING IDENTIFY NATIONAL BOARDERS
CONCLUSION
The technology of the Global Positioning System is allowing for huge changes in society. The applications using GPS are constantly growing. The cost of the receivers is dropping while at the same time the accuracy of the system is improving. This affects everyone with things such as faster Internet speed and safer plane landings.Even though the system was originally developed for military purposes and it is used to support a broad range of defense.
