ERECTION PROCESS
Strutting Of Tower Cranes
• If the height of tower crane exceed the free-standing
height as recommended by the manufacture, strutting
has to be done in regular interval as per manufacture’s
specifications.

• Strutting should be designed for the following forces : -

– Torsion / Twisting couple due to slewing operation

– Bending moment from main jib/counter jib
– Wind load on the mast
 Tower crane foundation should be done in consultation
with CMPC engineer to suit the site conditions.
Tower crane should not be erected near LT/HT lines
 Swing radius (Jib length) should be free from any
obstruction
 The relative level of the rails should be closely
monitored using leveling instrument/tube level, incase
of tower crane erected near to excavation edge
Recommended Operating Procedures
 UNAUTHORISED PERSONS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO
BOARD THE CRANE

 ENSURE THAT ONLY TRAINED OPERATOR SHOULD BE

ALLOWED TO OPERATE THE CRANE.

 THE OPERATOR SHOULD BE WELL VERSED WITH THE

OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE OF THE
TOWER CRANE.

 THE CRANE SHOULD NOT BE OPERATED WHEN THE WIND

SPEED IS MORE THAN 72 Km/Hr.

 ALL THE LIMIT SWITCHES AND SAFETY DEVICES SHOULD

BE INSTALLED BEFORE COMMISIONING THE CRANE
Recommended Operating Procedures
Tower crane should be earthen properly

It is forbidden to pull loads at an angle, drag them

across the ground or use the crane to dislodge
loads which have stuck fast

When lowering, do not allow the load hook to drop

heavily on the load or the ground. This will cause
slack rope, and hoisting rope will then no longer
wind properly on to the drum
