DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP
DIGITAL
CITIZENSHIP

Digital Citizenship is defined

by the quality of habits,
actions, and consumption
patterns that impact the
ecology of digital content and
communities.
DIGITAL
CITIZENSHIP
Examples of Digital Citizenship:
● Communicating with respect
● Respecting others’ privacy
● Seeing things from another
perspective
● Adding helpful
information/context to a
discussion or relevant pages
● Supporting others by offering
useful feedback
● Encouraging them
● Sharing work they’re proud of
DIGITAL LITERACY
DIGITAL
LITERACY
Digital literacy refers to an
individual's ability to find,
evaluate, and clearly
communicate information
through typing and other media
on various digital platforms. It is
evaluated by an individual's
grammar, composition, typing
skills, and ability to produce
text, images, audio, and
designs using technology.
DIGITAL
LITERACY
Digital Literacy is about being
able to make sense of digital
media. This occurs through
meaningful and sustainable
consumption and curation
patterns that improve an
individual’s potential to
contribute to an authentic
community. This includes the
ability to analyze, prioritize,
and act upon the countless
digital media 21st century
citizens encounter on a daily
basis.

PRINCIPLES OF
DIGITAL LITERACY
COMPREHENSION INTERDEPENDENCE SOCIAL CURATION
FACTORS
COMPREHENSI
ON

Comprehension is basically the

ability to extract implicit and
explicit ideas from a media.
INTERDEPENDEN
CE

Interdependence is how one

media form connects with
another, whether potentially,
metaphorically, ideally, or
literally.
SOCIAL
Sharing is no longer just a FACTORS
method of personal identity or
distribution, but rather can
create messages of its own.
Who shares what to whom
through what channels can not
only determine the long-term
success of the media, but can
create organic ecosystems of
sourcing, sharing, storing, and
ultimately repackaging media.
CURATION

Curation should resist data

overload and other signs of
“digital hoarding,” while also
providing the potential for
social curation–working together
to find, collect, and organize
great information.
PROMOTING DIGITAL LITERACY
Encourage Self-Exploration
Online learners should be able to explore the digital
resources on their own, which emphasizes the real-
world applications of this vital skill.

Create an Online Resource

Formal online training in digital literacy can help online
learners differentiate between fact and fiction, especially in
regards to online resources that may contain accurate
information or opinion-based content.

Set Some Ground Rules

Online learners need to be aware of how to use the online tools
effectively. This also involves Internet netiquette. For example, they
use social media to broaden their understanding and interact with
peers.

Evaluate Your Current e-Learning Strategies

Review the e-Learning strategies that are already in
place and determine how you can interject learning
technologies
Encourage Learner-Generated e-Learning
Content
Digital literacy can enhance online learners' performance,
support and motivation, especially when they are encouraged
to showcase their work. Ask online learners to create their own
e-Learning blogs or virtual presentations based on the subject
matter.

Include Digital Literacy Simulations

e-Learning simulations facilitate real-world experience in a
risk-free setting. Online learners are able to test out new
technologies and familiarize themselves with the LMS
platform. You can also assign each online learner with a
problem they must solve using online tools.

Host a Live Event

Live events give online learners the opportunity to use a
variety of online tools, such as web browsers, video
conferencing software, and social media sites. They are also
able to interact with their peers and online instructors
remotely.
DIGITAL FOOTPRINTS
DIGITAL
FOOTPRINTS

Digital footprint or digital

shadow refers to one’s unique
set of traceable digital
activities, actions,
contributions, and
communications manifested on
the Internet or digital devices.
DIGITAL
FOOTPRINTS

A digital footprint is a trail of

data or “electronic
breadcrumbs” you create while
using the Internet. It includes
the websites you visit, emails
you send, and information you
submit to online services.
BENEFITS OF DIGITAL
FOOTPRINT

● Fraud or legal issues can more

easily be detected
● Personalization (like suggested
products or related advertising)
serves to add value to our use
of the Internet
● Companies can more easily
offer incentives based on
interests and needs,
sometimes resulting in cost
savings
BENEFITS OF DIGITAL

generate revenue without our
knowledge It can be annoying and
distracting to be constantly
inundated with advertisements

used as a basis to reduce credit
limits or increase interest rates

came from, when the footprint

● A footprint can also be analyzed
offline and can be stored in
files which an administrator
can access.

on what that machine might have
been used for, but not who had
performed the actions.

out a lot about a person from
the trails you leave behind.
